Hello everyone,

This will be my first post, after being a silent reader for a few weeks. You guys have been a wealth of knowledge for me over the last few weeks and have kept me sane at the start of this journey.

A little background, I have been suffering with blood in urine since July, been on a turntable of docs prescribing antibiotics for UTIs then samples returning no infection ever since. Had a KUBCT in November for suspected kidney stones, all clear. Mid December sent for ultrasound of bladder and something was found. Referred to urology on 2 week referral and had contrast CT and flexi on Wednesday. Am now having a TURBT on 29th as a 2/3cm tumour was found on anterior wall with red spots on posterior with CIS?? according to my consultant.

This I have been quite calm about, thanks to your invaluable advice on here. And, I am a great believer in one day at a time, which helps!

I  am now looking to you for some of your invaluable advice, since yesterday evening I have noticed that my urine smells! Smells of burning rubber. It's not nice.  I am trying to drink as much water, decaf tea and diluted juice as possible but it is not budging. I have had bladder pain and stinging urination since July, so, I can't decide whether I should be contacting GP or whether I am overthinking now about having an infection. Is it common to get UTIs after a flexible cystoscopy?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi and welcome Nananaps, I had a bad UTI after my second TURBT it was a foul smell please see you doctor and they will check your urine and give you an antibiotic to clear it up. Best wishes as you travel this horrible journey we are all facing. Love Lynn x

  • Thanks Lynn

I thought maybe I am being a little paranoid. I will try and see OOH doc tomorrow, I have my pre op at 8am Monday so will speak to them if all else fails.

    Thanks again for your advice

  •   . Hi Michelle. Just to echo what Lynn says. This has all the signs of infection which is not uncommon after a cystoscopy. So, GP as soon as. In my area now the local Pharmacy can do a urine check and are able to issue antibiotics. This is a lot quicker than trying to get through to a GP. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi rily

Thanks for the reply, I have just checked out our local pharmacies and that looks to be the best bet.

    Thanks again
