My eGFR went down to 78 from 90 before. Since leaving hospital just before Christmas it dropped to 74. I have no temperature but just feeling tired. Should I be concerned? Spoke to GP, who was unconcerned. I have been taking Naproxen for about 10 days, I wonder if it knocked the EGFR down. I am a worrier - mainly worrying about residual infection. Anynce experienced something similar?

  • Hi

I had a number of tests last year-one of which had the result as very low-it did say grade 3 CKD in the results which hugely concerned me though I don’t remember the actual number.

On my last test, which was in September last year it was sitting at 65, and my doctor was unconcerned. Since he worked under the urology surgeon who removed my bladder and knew his stuff I chose to be unconcerned too!

I didn’t have any infection noted in my testing and I wasn’t taking any medication other than my statins and blood thinners. I felt fine, still do, and my doctor hasn’t felt the need to do any re testing, so I’m taking that as a positive! I hope you can be reassured, as I was, with your gp’s lack of concern.

    Sarah xx

  • Mine is quite low too - has been down to 55, but generally just under 60. I was also alarmed at the stage 3 CKD, but my consultant doesn't seem concerned. Apparently eGFR can drop with age & can be naturally on the low side. I suspect it may be a side effect of having RC and alternative plumbing. With neo, I have annual kidney ultrasound, which has variable results, according to how full my neo is and time of day. I'm currently waiting for a renogram to check that kidneys are draining OK.

  • I wish my eGFR was like yours.  Mine is 32 at last test,  another one next week.  I teeter between fear of cancer and renal failure.

  • I suspect many will be faced with that problem at some point, unfortunately
