Hello all.
Hello all,
I had my first BCG on Saturday and so far so good. However, I am now becoming quite concerned about the way things are being handled. For example, I still await a chest CT scan which was supposed to be done before treatment. I have chased up twice. Also, thanks to this forum, I realise that after I have finished my Immunotherapy x 6 - six weeks later approximately I should have a rigid cystoscopy. One had not been booked so I emailed my specialist nurse to ask for this and she booked a Flexi cystoscopy. I questioned this and she then responded saying I will now book a rigid cystcopy under GA - but why is it down to me to ensure that the correct follow-up procedure is booked? It makes me lose faith. if I had just accepted that, I would’ve turned up in February only to find that the wrong procedure had been arranged. I do not want to risk up setting the specialist nurse, but I’m concerned that something so important is dealt with wrongly.. any advice? Many thanks.
Hi Jessie15 . Sorry to hear you feel as though things are not going right. Different departments do not talk to each other and send out appointments independently, so not unusual for things not to come in order. We often have to arrange things ourselves. A rigid cystoscopy is not always used after treatment. In many cases it is a flexi check. Best wishes.
Hi Jessie15
After my induction BCG I had a flexi scope and my lovely Hubby was able to be with me during the procedure. Red patches were seen so then I had a follow up rigid cystoscopy under GA and biopsies were taken. (These turned out to be inflammation from the BCG) Then after the first lot of maintenance BCG I had a PDD/cystoscopy under GA. Another red patch seen and I'm currently waiting for the Histology results. I think each hospital work within the NICE guidelines to develop their own protocols for flexi and rigid check cystoscopies and I have to say that I've been very happy with my treatment so far at UHNM.
Best wishes for the rest of your BCG, I hope it is gentle on you.
Love Ade xx
