Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with a bladder cancer 3 weeks ago after having TURBT.I feel totally exhausted and not knowing what to do.I have a back pain all the time and I do mot know if there is light at the end of the tunnel.I do not know when I go back to work if this is possible.Materially I am very bad.....

  • Hi Lan and welcome to this friendly and supportive group. Any cancer diagnosis is very challenging to deal with,  physically and mentally. Do you know the Grade and Stage of your cancer? It is usual to have a second TURBT to confirm the Grade and Stage then the Pathology results go to an MDT meeting where your urologist, a pathologist and oncologist discuss your case and decide on an appropriate treatment plan for you. Sometimes there is more than one treatment plan and these will be discussed with you so that you are fully involved in any decisions. Bladder cancer IS treatable, and YES there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It might be a long tunnel but if you stay on the forum the lovely folk on here will be able to support and steady you through your journey. I have been a member on here since February 2024 and am so grateful for the support I have received.

Lots of people do carry on working with a  diagnosis of Bladder Cancer, others decide that they need to focus on themselves. It is an entirely personal decision.  There is lots of information on the Macmillan site plus a helpline you can call too.

For now just take it one day at a time and look after yourself. If you think your back pain may be due to a UTI then ask your GP to do a Urine test to see if you need antibiotics. UTIs are a common issue after TURBT.

Sending you love and a virtual hug, Ade xxx

  • Hi Lan , welcome to the forum. I agree with furbabymama’s post, really good advice given . I hope you stay with the forum, they are are very friendly supportive group

    Much love Angela x

  • Hi Lan,

It's a shock but there is plenty of light at the end of the tunnel. Once the medics plan things out for your treatment it will all make sense and you'll regain a sense of purpose (or should I say that's how it worked for me).

We all know how you feel - you're in the right place and hopefully we can help you feel more in control.

We all say find out more about bladder cancer but don't Google, look for details on the Macmillan site, NHS or Cancer Research. You can trust those. Try not to second guess - ask your doctors for information, suggestions on next steps etc. And you can ask on this forum and find immediate support from people who have gone through it before you and are all still enjoying life.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck,

  • Hi all,

    1. I have a pta low grade and stage 1 & 2  < 1cm non invasive cancer i my right side bladder.I do not know how dangerous is this one? The urologist says that I have not to panick but I am not sure.Cancer is cancer anyway.
  • Welcome to the group Lan,Being low grade and non muscle invasive is better than being muscle invasive.Have you had one TURBT ? It’s common to have a second a few weeks after the first. When all the biopsy results are back, scans etc then they will come up with a treatment plan for you.Stay on here as we will all help to support you through these difficult early stages. There will be light at the end of the tunnel.Best wishes Jane x

  • Yes I had aTURBT and this is how the urologist knows about it.They told me nothing to do at the moment apart from recovery from the TURBT till I reach 3 months and then have another cystoscopy .

  • Hi again  trust the urologist. Panic just makes it hard to think straight.

Everyone who has replied is right. And the cancer you have is treatable. Forget all the horror stories and take it a step at a time and work with the medics on getting you through this. Just like we all have done

    xx

  • Hi  . In the great scheme of things this sounds like favourable result, if there is such a thing in he circumstances. A follow up TURBT is common and not usually as severe as the first. It is a check to make sure nothing is missed and gives a more accurate diagnosis in order to plan the next step. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Your results sound good. It’s all scary though so don’t judge yourself if you feel bad. Just trust the experts and the lovely people on here. Take care of you x

  • So understandable, cancer is a scary word. Just go with the flow ( literally) listen to the people on this group as they have all been through it one way or another. A great bunch xxx
