Bladder cancer spreading to prostate

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer five years ago & had it surgically removed. Now it has returned & also I had an enlarged prostate. The Doctors wanted to do it with a BCG infusion, but as my prostate was enlarged & I had UTI I could not empty my bladder properly. So it was decided to do a T.U.R.P, op. which they did. But now I have been told that the bladder cancer has spread to the prostate. It was suggested that they would like to remove the whole bladder and prostate. But I'm not sure. Is there any options. I am 78 but still quite fit. Any feed back would help. Thanks

  •   I have just had mine removed. Got riddance. Have you discussed removal with your surgeon and gone though the risks and benefits?

I have no regrets having had a RC, only not having it done sooner for my high grade cancer.

  • Hi

My father in law had 2 separate cancers-muscle invasive bladder cancer and prostate cancer. He had both removed just over a year ago when he was 78.

He was 79 this week, and doing pretty well-both cancers gone on his latest scan, and still managing to look after his wife who has dementia. He was a high risk for surgery due to heart issues, but came through and was leading the local remembrance service last weekend. It did take him a long time to recover, and he gets tired more easily but was fit and active before the surgery which definitely helped him. He has never regretted going ahead with his surgery, and I wish you well with your decision.

  •    your dad is amazing

  • He’s my father in law, but he was very pragmatic about his 2 primary cancers and having had my own bladder removed, I understand how well he has done.

Hope you’re doing well Leo-you’re pretty amazing yourself!
