Hi, Had my 3 month checkup after getting laser treatment on my bladder but unfortunately some growth is showing again. I go back on the 18th to have more treatment to try and remove it and might be getting a 6 week course of mitomycin. Was wanting to know if there is much side effects  IE needing to use toilet more or greater urgency going with this as I work on a school bus and won't have access to a toilet when at work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks Brian.

  • Good afternoon Brian . I have had Mitomycin and my experience was that on the day of instillation you will have to retain the fluid for 2 hours and follow the toilet disinfecting for about 6 hours afterwards. Take care about avoiding contact with your skin. After that I had no after effects during the rest of the week. We are all different but I hope you will have no difficulty , regards, John.

  • Thanks for the information john I appreciate it. Brian.

  • Hi Brian,I’m sorry to hear you need more treatment.I can’t help with chemo advice but wanted to wish you well.I hope the next treatment gets rid of the growth.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi

I had 6 sessions of Mitomycin C, retention required was only 1 hour. No special toilet cleaning as it's not immunotherapy. Other than when there was a bit of mishap on delivery,  I had very little in the way of stinging. Felt a little tired the day after towards the end but otherwise OK. Female plumbing so might be different for you of course.

  • Thank you for that much appreciated.

    Brian.

  • Following this chemotherapy I experienced a skin reaction which was very sore and for this reason I would think that bleaching the toilet afterwards would be recommended to neutralise the mitomycin.
