Hospital rang me to book my next inspection since having the stent removed.
Under GA for this one says camera and biospy and diathermy laser?
Will they biopsy it for sure even if nothing has started to grow back, is that a normal procedure, or are they adding that as a possibility should it be needed but biopsy and laseriggt bit be done.
Not sure if they take a biopsy as part for the course after a tumour removal? Or only biopsy if something looks suspect.
Given I had such a bad time with pain after my TURBT and stent issues I'm hoping for a much easier time this time.
Hi Simc,
I've had a biopsy under GA every three Months (ish) since my second TURBT.
They take a sample from my bladder and send off for testing I believe, sounds like you're having something similar. So they will do a biopsy without any visible signs of a tumour.
So far my last 4 biopsies (all under GA) came back clear, just had my 5th and get my results back on 28/10, so keeping fingers crossed lol.
Not sure about the laser though, hopefully someone will be along with experience of this soon.
My biopsies are no where as intrusive as my TURBTs, only under for a short while and sent home the same day.
Best of luck.
Trevor
Ah interesting then, like I say I wasn't aware this would be happening, at my stent removal they decided I just can't handle the custocopy while awake so assumed this was becusee of that even though I said they would need to sedate me in future to get through it.
And just reading the notes about biopsy sort of surprised me and diathermy laser presumably to cauterize the wound from memory.
But thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Jane, I'm sure everything will be fine this time fingers crossed. Just after the awful pain I had after the TURBT it does make you a little apprehensive as a biopsy will mean cutting away a section again. Maybe I was just very unlucky but I guess we will see what happens.

Ah ok, so it might be different for you, but assumed having a biopsy would mean taking samples.
I know they've taken samples of where the tumor was, plus some red patches (due to BCG) and this time some samples where there was some inflammation... At this rate I'll won't have any bladder left lol...
Trevor
Well I assumed that they slice a section away for the biopsies the same as removing the tumour?
Maybe I'm thinking far too much ahead of the procedure.
I guess I'm just concerned about having a load more unpaid time off especially when work is busy as it's nearly Xmas and I'm in food delivery to a certain up market supermarket, it's not just a job.
I guess some research on how they do a biopsy is on the cards

Yeah they take a very small sample I believe.
I've had no pain after each biopsy, just a little tired due to the GA. I do take it easy though (no heavy weights etc) for a couple of weeks.
They signed me off work for two weeks after my TURBTS, but I've had no time off work for any of my biopsies and haven't felt like I needed any.
Good luck with your research, I have a meeting with my consultant on 28/10 to discuss my last biopsy and I'll ask him what he does... He probably has told me before, but I have a brain like a fish ATM.
