Need my turbt results  explaining in simple terms if they are familiar  with anyone. I have been given them over phone and told I will have another flexiscope come August.

Here goes: G1 -PTA-TCC

I would most grateful if anyone can interpre

this for me . I am lost been told I can speak to a nurse next week . I really need to no.

               Thank you

  • Hiya Sunshine,

The various letters and numbers describe different parts of the diagnosis.

The G1 bit means grade 1, which is low-risk (and good news):

”The cancers cells look very like normal cells. They are called low grade or well differentiated. They tend to grow slowly and generally stay in the lining of the bladder.”

pTa - the p means it was found by biopsy, and the Ta bit is also positive news - it’s not grown into the bladder wall or muscle.

Ta means the cancer is just in the innermost layer of the bladder lining.”

and TCC is transitional cell carcinoma, the most common form of bladder cancer.

There is loads of info available here: https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/bladder-cancer

And this is a really lovely, friendly and supportive community of people who will be only too happy to offer help and advice :)

All the best, and stay smiling

  • Hi Sunshine Forever,

My interpretation  is that Grade 1 is the least aggressive and PTA is the type of tumour. (Papilliary) Not sure what TTA is but here's a link that might be helpful to you.

    Hope all goes well

  • Hi  . a good result in the great scheme of things.

G1 is the grade and the lowest

TA is the stage. Very early stage and likely to be superficial.

TCC is transitional cell carcinoma. The most common type of tumour.

The P simply stands for pathology meaning the results have been determined in a path lab.

    Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Sunshine forever, sorry you are feeling lost, I too felt lost. You will be fully supported on this forum, and you will also find a wealth of information on here going forward. I had a TURBT in April this year and was diagnosed with G1 -PTA-TCC, same as you. I had  one dose of chemo straight after the TURBT.  I had a follow up cystoscopy 3 months later in July and that was clear thankfully. I have my next cystoscopy in March 2025. I have been given the phone number of the Consultant's secretary and also the nurse. I hope that helps.

  • Hi Sunshine forever,I’m sorry you feel lost and I hope you will find some support and advice in this friendly group. We are all here to help.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi, I know it's very daunting with the terminology but you did the right thing asking here rather than searching on the internet. Dr Google always makes things seem worse than they are.

At least you will know when speaking to the nurse but don't be afraid to ask them any worries or questions you have. They will have the answers. Best of luck.
