Hi I’ve posted a few times regarding my dad ,,

this page has been a god send can I firsty  say , lovely people on here .

anyway dad has muscle invasive bladder cancer , which is still only in bladder ( he’s  had ct & pet scans recently )

they said he could have the bladder removed , he couldn’t wait ! They said would definitely be in august , his consultant said he had to move a few things around find theatre space etc as there was none as it stood .

had no update so got anxious and rung today , they said they was struggling to find space in august and has put him in for 13 th September ( 5 weeks away ) and they were going to try one last option to get him in sooner & I will get an update in a couple of days .

i got upset and panicky , is this too long ? I’m new to all this , how long did other people wait for a RC ? Dad is saying let’s not panic yet , but I am :( I don’t want to lose the most important person to me Disappointed

thank you for reading xx

  • Hi  . Sorry to hear your Dad is having delays for his treatment. Although I had MIBC I did not have RC so not much help. The delay must be worrying. I am sure others with experience will be along to offer some advice. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Owen777,Try not to worry.I was classed as urgent and still waited a month. They have to get the team together and find a bed so there is a lot of planning involved. If they can get your dad in sooner they will but a slightly longer wait will be ok.Jane x

  • Yea, I went through the same thing, Waiting is the hardest part. I also had to have the bladder (and prostate - which turned out also had cancer) removed. It felt like an age. They first spotted an issue in November and it wasn't until Feb the following year until the op. I don't know if that's quick or not. The time between was hard. All you have is time to think of the worse case scenario.

The operation itself? Well I went down to get anaesthetic, next second it way all done.

And just like everyone told me on here, life afterwards with a bag is not only manageable, but had it's advantages ;-)

Now I was in hospital for longer than usual due to some issues, but that allowed me to see just how many people were going thought this. It is scary to you and me because we go through this once. But the doctors... well they do this all day long, every day. Sure there are risks, but honestly they do know what they are doing.

Of course you are going to worry. That is normal. But if you ever need to talk, you know where to come.

  • Thank you for your reply was your cancer muscle invasive ? His is grade 3 , was everything ok after the op ? I will show him these messages today :) x

  • Thank you Jane was your cancer muscle invasive? His is grade 3 ? It’s so worrying , I’m so scared x

  • Thank you so much. X

  • Please don't worry this happened to my husband. Due to him having covid. When it is your loved one you just want the cancer removed from their bodies.  Look at this positively it is only a few weeks and in that time get your father as healthy as he possibly can be. Food, a little exercise. Etc. Such good wishes to you.

  • Hi

I waited 9 weeks to have my bladder out after being told it had to come out, although for a different cancer, and I’d had another surgery before that so had to recover.

My father in law was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer and prostate cancer in February, and had his surgery to remove both on 1st September. This was last year.
