Hi anybody who is still awake,
What does a bladder spasm feel like ? I have a catheter in and I thought I might need to go to the loo (n.2) but instead I got this massive pain on my right flank. Is this what some people refer to when they mention bladder spasms ?

Btw I also have a Ureteric stent put in at the same time maybe that caused the pain ?
Hi Jane,Sorry you didn’t get any replies earlier. How are you feeling today ? If it’s flank pain it might be from the stent. When I had a bladder the spasms would be at the entrance to the bladder. The muscles would contract and tighten and it was very painful.I also used to get bladder cramps which felt like severe period pains.I hope your pain is better today.Love Jane xx
I had cramps with my last TURBT. They were absolutely agonising, and I was writhing in agony as a result, for several days. It was caused by clots and lots of them, caused by very poor management of the catheter. It was an agonising and involuntary contraction of the bladder. All I had to do was look at a tap, and wham, contraction city Arizona. It stopped when a larger diameter catheter was put in whilst in hospital (30mm) and the SHO flushed out the bladder with a 50 ml syringe, drawing out the clots after breaking them up with hydrostatic pressure.
Hopefully your problem is not as severe, but your bladder has had a shock with surgery and may therefore be out of sorts. Hopefully short lived.
No problems with TURBT 2, btw.

Hi there, yes I think the pain was from the stent. I think that the slight straining I was doing caused my bladder to contract and probably pulled on the stent. I have a new strategy of gently holding catheter tube in place so as to not cause the urgent wee sensation. This seemed to work this morning and I did pass some no2. Strange cause for celebration I know ! Perhaps I need to get some gentle laxative to aid, never had the problem before. Anyway really appreciate the reply x
Thank you, hopefully I can avoid further episodes. X
You will feel much more comfortable once the catheter comes out. They are not the easiest to deal with but then you don’t want to have retention.Love Jane
Bicyclegirl,
Celebration? (ABFAB mode ON) time to break out the Bolly !
If you are on painkillers, that can cause bowel problems. Drink plenty & walk about to help. I suspect the bladder tries to eject the catheter when it contracts to try & pass urine. All general stress & strain in places you don't expect!
Hi Bicyclegirl , Sorry I'm a bit late in replying, but I can get a bit constipated following bladder procedures, TURBT etc due to taking paracetamol. Constipation can also cause considerable pain. I take one or two Senna tablets before bed.
Best wishes
C xx
