BIOPSY? DAY

Well, I went to my theatre appointment on Tuesday. Had to be there for 11.30. By 2 pm I was dressed for theatre and had been seen by the surgeon and anaesthetist. Surgeon explained he would be taking everything away and this would be sent for biopsy. So it was a turbt as everyone on the forum said it would be. The lesion is in my urethra and if it turns out to be cancerous then it is a very rare cancer. Was still waiting to go down to theatre at 5 pm. Nurses rang to see when I would be going down. The nurses were absolutely brilliant. Theatre said they were willing to go ahead but I would need to stay in for the night as nurses wouldn't have time to do all their obs before their dept closed. They weren't able to find me a bed so ended having to go home. Rang from hospital this morning to say it wouldn't be same consultant doing the op so have to wait for an appointment in the urology dept before they can give me another date for theatre. Very disappointed it didn't go ahead but hoping it won't be too long before they give me another date. Thanks for your support so far everyone. Sue.

  • Oh Sue,That is disappointing.I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer.Love Jane x

  • Sue, I am so sorry you have been put through that, the stress of preparing and waiting to go to theatre is bad enough, i think i would have cried if that happened to me. I really hope they sort it very soon.

much love to you Angela x

  • What a bummer! Hope you don't have to wait long. Please inform PALS, as this has wasted a lot of NHS money by failing to co-ordinate possible earlier theatre over-runs with the need to keep you in. As well as anxiety-inducing for you.

    Best, Denby

  • Sue, I feel gutted for you myself…. Bad enough when the whole thing goes as it should, but to get so close to the event, like Halofan I’d of been in tears too, more so with frustration.!
fingers crossed you get a date soon.

    best wishes

  • That’s so upsetting and stressful for you, we have had to wait around all day but never been sent home as you were. There seems to be a fundamental issue with these day procedures, at our hospital you go in blocks, 1 group at 7am and one 1 at 10am, the first lot never seems to be near finished before the second comes, it’s mainly just waiting and not knowing what’s happening, not good for anyone. Jean.

  • Thank you everyone for your replies. It means a lot.

Well the latest in the saga is the hospital rang on Friday (two days after I should have had the surgey) to say that as it would be a different surgeon to the one I saw I would need to be seen in urology clinic again and someone would ring me with time and date of appointment. Said person rang today with appointment for this coming Monday at 9am. Queried why I needed to be seen again and was told they didn't know as they only deal with making the appointments. Said she has sent the appointment letter to my portal but would probably be tomorrow before it showed up. I have no idea why I need to go to urology again as when I went for the cystoscopy I never saw a consultant, I just met him on the day I was supposed to have surgery. Hoping my new surgery date isn't too long after I'm seen in urology on Monday.

Can't help thinking if things had gone ahead as planned I would have hopefully known a bit more and also been a week (almost) post op.

    Thanks for your support everyone.

  • I agree, it looks very unprofessional

  • Sue are you in England by any chance?

  • Hi Leo. Yes I am in England.

  • Hi SueB4,
