My dad went into hospital a week ago he was fine normal chatty self. he needed to have nephrostomy as his kidney levels dropped to a worrying level, however 2 days after he has been confused aggressive, muscle twitches, not communicating like he use to the nurse thinks he has delirium has anyone seen someone suffer with this?
It is so not like my Dad not to contact me so this we are finding very strange sometimes he comes round for 2 minutes then back to this state :(
Hi Prindos,My mother had it when she had a urinary infection and became aggressive and confused. She tried to punch me so I knew something was not right at all.Once the infection was under control she was fine but it’s can happen especially in the elderly. My uncle has had it recently too.I hope things improve soon.Love Jane
Mum told me afterwards that she thought she was on a ward and being attacked by the staff. In fact she was at home in bed and being looked after by me.When my uncle had it recently he told my cousin he had just come back from Spain. He has never been there and was on a ward in hospital. In both cases the confusion went once the infection had gone.My late mum did have dementia in the end but this was behaviour totally out of character for her.
Yes, I had this with my mum. We’re going through cancer with my dad at the moment, Mum tried to bite me and told me to “drop dead”. She thought I’d had twins and was disappointed I hadn’t brought them into see her, and was adamant that the 90 year old lady in the bed opposite was having a baby. We saw butterflies and lambs and kittens.
it was a urine infection, but of course she was very poorly so probably brain cancer also to blame. It really upset me at first, but when I went to visit her, if I got evil looks from her,I put my chair right at the end of the bed, facing slightly away from her. I gradually moved towards her over 10 minutes or so and that seemed to help. She even told me that she loved me.
Just remember that it isn’t his personality that you’re seeing right now. My mum did come round a little bit and was able to reason again, but she was also frightened because she thought the nurses were trying to harm her. She was ordering the nurses around asking for drinks because she thought she was in a hotel.
We had to keep reminding the staff to do a urine test and get antibiotics.
good luck, hope things get better
Thank you for coming back to me. He came round and then it started again last night, so we made the nurses aware he is on antibiotics again it was so scary the first time round, as never seen him like that before. I asked if he remembered how he was and he could not remember anything.
