Hi, was diagnosed in April 2021 with none muscle evasive bladder cancer hat turbt then another, told it was aggressive cancer been having bcg and regular checks, I had a cystoscopy beginning December, the consultant didn’t seem very happy with what he seen, there was 2 patches of redness, he said it may be an infection and gave me antibiotics, even though I said that surely if it was an infection it would show in my urine, he said yes but it may be the beginning of an infection, so to take tablets and they’d do a repeat cystoscopy asap, with Christmas asap is end January m, I’m a little worried, has anyone else had this.
thank you
Hi Julie1812,Red patches are quite common and don’t always mean cancer. You can get them with infections and inflammation as well.I had Interstitial cystitis for many years before cancer and got them. They were always biopsied.I hope you get your cystoscopy soon.Best wishes Jane x
Hi, after an anxious wait for flexi cystoscopy, the screen was totally blurred, consultant or myself couldn’t see it was like fog, consultant asked nurse to get it in focus, nurse said not allowed to touch the screen that's for tech to deal with, consultant took the camera out and said carry on with bcg, cancer nurses will be in touch, I was so deflated as I knew he couldn’t see if the redness had gone, he knew the previous cystoscopy had flagged changes, I contacted my cancer nurse and explained everything and that I wasn’t happy, she was lovely and investigated, came back to me several days later and said she had spoken to the consultant and that he was happy with what he had seen, I said well he couldn’t see anything, the nurse was lovely and understanding, she said she is the go between, I’ve requested a repeat cystoscopy consultant doesn’t want to do it, nurse is pushing for it with higher consultant, I’ll be the first to feel relieved if there is no redness, why should I take the chance, the consultant who seemed to have no interest, am I wrong for requesting a repeat cystoscopy x
Good morning Julie1812. I would have thought that the main point of a cystectomy would be to see what is going on . Not seeing would be a perfectly good reason for having a repeat procedure . I recall on one occasion there appeared to be lots of debris floating about that it was difficult to see what was going on in the bladder but usually I’ve had a front row seat with a good view., best wishes, John.
Hi julia, i think you are perfectly within your rights to ask for another. Sometimes the CSN do them at my urology clinic.
I recently politely requested a change of consultant because i wasnt happy that they were planning to monitor me ! My request was granted.
good luck and hope it is sorted soon
much love Angela x
