Hi all

wishing everyone a happy new year!

My mum is 73 and was diagnosed in September with T2 grade 3 bladder cancer. She has just finished her treatment with Chemoradiotherapy.

She has been getting a lot of hip /groin pain on walking. She has flagged to both her GP and care team however just been given codeine which doesn’t seem to help.

I’m concerned about it spreading to bones / muscles near the bladder. Should she be pushing for a scan to see if this is the case? Her follow up is end of feb:

thanks in advance for any advice Slight smile

  • Hi  . Happy New Year to you and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear mum is in pain although some sort of pelvic pain can be expected after radiotherapy. It is understandable that you are worried that something else is going on but things can get better with time. It took me a while to recover after my bladder chemoradiation. Mum should have some follow up scans as routine, but they need to wait several weeks for things to settle down before looking. I hope the medics can sort out some sort of pain relief. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Wirralrn,  Welcome! and Best Wishes for the new year

I'm the same age as your mum, I have the same staged 3 Badder cancer as her , I had radical Cystectomy In late August Last year, I was offered the chemo which I turned down due to my age,  I preferred going straight in for the operation! It Is major surgery, Its been 4 months now since my surgery and am practically doing every thing I done before, If I can give any advice to your mum don't hesitate to contact me

  • Hi Angela, How are you my friend , Yes I'm doing ok

But we all know with this Cancer there is always going to be that 5% that could be knocking about somewhere in there

but sure we will look on the bright side and hope we will all make it till next year

  • Thanks very much for your response Rily, I appreciate the reassurance a lot.

  • That’s great to hear, I’m glad your recovery is going well. Unfortunately due to prior blood clots surgery wasn’t an option, and chemoradiotherapy seemed to be the preferred option by my mum.

I’ll pass the message on to my mum, the offer for advice is much appreciated. She’s doing well otherwise and hasn’t really had too many other side effects which is good Slight smile

  • Well that's good to here and I understand everyone is different I wish you and your mum all the best

  • Just an update on this. My mums still suffering with her pain - had an xray with nothing on it, awaiting an MRI scan.

is there anything anyone can suggest re pain relief? Morphine / codeine don’t seem to do the trick. Ibuprofen somewhat - are there any alternatives she could speak to GP about

    thanks in advance!
