I have been suffering cold symptoms since just before my TURBT last August. They have lessened and worsened in the subsequent weeks but never fully resolved. I caught a more extreme cold December 31 with much congestion and coughing. I also cannot sleep at night if laying on a bed. I have to sit up to try for 2-4 hours per night. Are these chronic conditions typically associated with BC? I completed 6 BCG treatments last November. Any suggestions as I am barely functioning at present? Medications have no impact on either the cold or sleep problems..
Leaning over a bowl of hot water not scalding with a towel over the head for a few minutes should help to loosen up the secretions.i gargle witn Aspirin for a sore throat as well as use honey.Perhaps you are more run down since your treatment ? It’s hard to avoid illness at this time of year too.I hope others will be along with suggestions to help.I hope you feel better soon.Jane
Always check with your pharmacist before trying. To clear colds I rely on taking 500 mg Vit C slow release [this is very important, as the body cannot store Vit C] twice a day year-round, immune boost and to aid repair of virus-damaged cells. If I get any cold symptoms I add a 15mg zinc supplement once a day taken with one of the Vit C doses to aid absorption. Seems to particularly help with the chesty symptoms. Also immune and repair boosting. And twice a day high-dose odour controlled garlic tablet. This is anti-viral. Swallow with cold liquid or food, not hot, to maintain the coating, which avoids side effects.
Sticking to this kept me at work never having cough/cold time off as a teaching assistant [sat amongst the coughing teenagers] in a pretty needy comprehensive for 16 years. I also take a decent one-a -day muti-vit/mineral. How to tell 'decent'? Check the zince and magnesium infredients. If zinc oxide or magnesium oxide, choose a different one as these are not well absorbed. [Eg Zinc citrate, magnesium citrate are OK]
Also have you tried varying the humidity of your home, especially where you sleep? I am much less prone to wake up with a tickle if I remember to soak a flannel and put it on the heated towel rail which we have on low in the bedroom. Depending on your home, too much damp could be an issue but people often do not think about it being too dry, especially in the heating season.
Hope you find some improvement, Denby
I was hit very hard with the cold virus but am starting to improve now. I tried many of the suggestions but with little success. It seems the virus simply had to run its course. I am not sure if my BC was a factor. Other family members and friends are now in the throes of this virus, so I suspect not. I think I am now “on the mend” and my sleep patterns have improved. Thanks for checking in.
Good to hear you are getting better.I hope your friends and family feel better soon.I hate this time of year as there are far too many viruses about. My partner and I are back to mask wearing in shops as he is vulnerable due to a rare muscle disease.Best wishes Jane
