My husband was diagnosed with pTa, G3 bladder cancer 3 years ago and has had one recurrence about a year ago. Treatment has been BCG (has had about 24). He had his annual CT scan last Tuesday and today had an e-letter just asking him to see a consultant on 10 January. This has obviously worried us sick especially a couple of days before Christmas. I know it's obviously not good news as they don't invite you in for a chat. I know noone can really reassure me but I don't feel I can tell anyone in the family so just wanted to share it here as I know everyone has experienced this fear. He did have an abnormal CT scan previously with BCG and had to have an MRI scan prostate biopsies but these were normal and it was a complication of BCG. They did at that time explain the finding in the letter so I assume it's unlikely to be the same and likely to be worse as there was no face to face appointment about that. Thanks for reading.
Hi Catfan . It's always worrying when you get these out of the blue appointments and easy to overthink things. Bear in mind follow up appointments are made by admin rather than the doctors. It may turn out to be something or nothing so try not to let it spoil your Christmas. Best wishes.
Thanks Rily - fortunately the specialist nurse rang after I emailed her and she has gone through it with my husband. To cut a long story short, the CT scan was clear apart from possible thickening of the bladder. They weren't able to have their MDT due to the doctors' strikes so it won't happen until next Friday when they want to get an opinion from their teaching hospital. The appointment as booked to go through the outcome if needed. I am so glad she rang as I was imagining worse.
Hi Catfan. Good to know things were clear on CT. When I was first diagnosed I was told I had thickening of bladder wall. That was several years ago and it hasn't been mentioned since even though I have had many further scans. Best wishes.
