Good Evening everyone
51 yo male no previous issues, noticed dry blood in urine on Saturday 23//9/2023 same on Sunday and again Monday Been to gp and had dip test and it showed no uti but high blood and referred me to urologist for scans etc, obviously I am in shock as to everything at the moment as everthing points to bladder cancer , I did have a strenuous week in the gym last week but maybe I am clinging to anything, any advice is welcomed.
Hello Daveo316, my own diagnosis wasn't made until I went to have a cystoscopy. My symptoms were not based on seeing any blood in my urine because I didn't see any, it was more to do with wanting to pee more often, it just didn't feel right. Of course putting pressure on the bladder can lead to blood in the urine but it's always best to get it checked out. You're considerably younger than me so it could be something of nothing. You're doing the right thing, if it turns out to be something you will at least get the chance to jump on it and get treatment. I wish you well.
Thankyou for replying, maybe I hadn’t noticed going more often as I’ve always thought I went to much, I suppose everyone is different on how much is to often , what did you consider more often?
I think I noticed it more through the night. Getting up maybe 3 or 4 times a night. It just made me aware that something had changed. I thought it might have been more of a prostate issue with all the publicity given to that. As it turned out the prostate was the least of my concerns. Ironically I did see a GP who found micro spots of blood in my urine (invisible to the eye) but didn't advise being referred. In the end I spoke to a surgery nurse and she said if you're worried I'll get you an appointment with our local hospital. She did just that and that was the start of my journey.
I really wouldn't start jumping to conclusions just yet. It's easy to have negative thoughts, just get checked out. Let us know how things go, there are lots of people here with different experiences who can offer plenty of tips and advice if ever you need it.
Hi Daveo316. Do not hesitate to follow through with CT scans and cystoscopy. I experienced months of periodic blood in the urine and finally complete blockage due to massive clots before proper testing was done revealing a bladder tumour. My urologist followed up promptly removing the tumour and I will start additional treatment in a few weeks. I worried almost a week about having to undergo a cystoscopy and when it actually was done, I didn’t even realize he had been in and out with the scope yet. I felt foolish having worried at all about this procedure. Try not to worry too much (I should not be giving advice on this as I was a poor example).
Hi Daveo316,
Welcome to this group and sorry to hear about your issues.
t's good you went to the GP straight away and you'll hopefully get some tests soon.
For me I had a flexible cystopsopy, which is basically a camera inserted into the bladder, it's not as bad as it sounds. They will be able to see what's what. It's over in minute's and they will be able to tell you there and then what they found.
I also had an ultrasound, MRI and CT scan at later dates.
With mine they spotted a tumor and within weeks I was back in hospital having the tumour removed. Please see my profile for additional information.
At the moment my cancer hasn't returned, It's almost one year since my diagnosis, and the last year has been a blur. I'm not going to say it's been easy, but I must not grumble.
If you do get a diagnosis, it's important to remember that bladder cancer is treatable and try not to panic. Easily said than done I know.
I wish you best of luck and keep us updated. There are a lot more knowledgeable and experienced people on this forum than I, that really helped me during my early days of the diagnosis.
Take care.
Hi
In my case it did, but listen, I know it's scary and it's early days. You're doctor has done the right thing and blood in the urine doesn't automatically mean bladder cancer and there are a number reasons why it happens. Now this is a very supportive group, so don't a stranger and don't be afraid to ask questions you're amongst friends.
Hi Dave. You’ve done the right thing going to the doctor ASAP. The same happened to my husband back in late may. He woke me one night to say he was bleeding when he peed This went on for a good 48 hours and passing clots as well. He was tested for cystitis but came back negative. They referred him to the hospital
