My husband was contacted on monday night to say he needed urgent blood transfusion as his haemoglobin was 79 due to having a heavy bleed a week before. His gp rang the next morning unaware of his cancer or turbt surgery and he arranged it for saturday morning. He went for 8am only to be told they know nothing about it and to back in the morning when they get the blood sent down from Newcastle. Has anyone else had to go through anything like this, nobody seems to be in contact with anyone, He starts chemotherapy on tuesday and is worried it will affect that.

  • Hi Channie1,I’m really sorry to hear this but it does happen and it’s incredibly frustrating. As I found out when caring full time for my late mother the communication in the NHS can be dire. When I came home from surgery the health centre had no record of me having cancer or having been in hospital.I had to take down my hospital discharge letter so it could be scanned into the system as they didn’t believe I had cancer.I felt so upset and humiliated.I hope this can be sorted out it’s really not good enough in my opinion.Best wishes to your husband.I’m sure he will feel much better for his blood transfusion.Love Jane xx
