Hi all, I had a turbt 15 days ago. I was told I would have a follow up appt with the results following an mdt meeting at 4 weeks.
I just received a call from the urology appt dept asking me if I could make next tuesday. I just felt the panic rising and asked her
why so soon. She said she didnt know "I am just the receptionist ". I asked her if she could find out why from someone in the dept.
she said she spoke to a specialist nurse who said my results were back and they have had a cancellation. The nurse didnt come to
speak to me , just left it to the young girl. I have really got myself in a panic over this and cant quite get my thoughts in perspective.
just a bit shocked , feel the early call back is bad news and the cancellation reason given is a fob off tbh. I know all of you have been
through this , the anxiety of waiting and trying to cope. I just feel really really worn out. My sister died 3 months back, I have been
struggling with long covid now for 17 months , and now this. It just feels too much at times. So sick of crying . Thanks for being my safe space,
I cant tell my family yet, only my husband knows. I just pray for strength and hope its better than my awful imagination.
Thanks for listening Angela
Hi Halofan .We have learned over the years you cannot read anything in to the timing of appointments. Appointments are usually made by admin staff rather than medics. Sometimes the doctors have not even seen your results until you turn up. 2 weeks used to be the norm but Covid etc caused a backlog. I hope all goes well with your results.
Hi Alofan. Like Rily said, a couple of weeks is the time it takes for the lab to cultivate the cells and analyse them to come up with stage and grade. If they haven't got a backlog. So, 15 days is the norm. It may take longer if you are in a queue, either at the lab or at the consultant. I bet the cancellation dud the trick...
Good luck!
Oh, also try not to worry. The imagination is neatly always much much worse than the reality. The funny thing is we all have gone through this. But we all jump to the worse case scenario. I know, I have been there! Then once you get your results and whatever it is (note: bladder cancer is one of the most treatable of all) you have a treatment and a way forward, all become much much easier. I remember reading this advice when waiting for my results. I was still in panic mode. After I thought "hey, they were right! I have made myself miserable without reason!". So please, please, trust us. Things are going to be better after the visit.
Thanks Rily, I have never used a support forum before this bladder cancer ,and I cant express my gratitude enough for the sense of comfort I get knowing that one of you guys understands how it all feels, it really helps me get things in perspective.I feel a little more resigned to what will be will be today.
Much love Angela x
Thanks mpb1963 , for taking the time to reassure me , it really helps. I feel a bit better today. Still have the fear of unknown , but not in a blind panic like yesterday. I will be thinking about all of you on tuesday and let you know how i get on. much love Angela
