My mom who is almost 81 had her 1st dose of 3 bcg treatment after having a break of 6 months. She has really struggled with the side effects very high temperature and extreme fatigue.  It has taken her 4days to recover. She is due another installation next week but I'm very concerned about how it may affect her.  Any advice please.   She does take paracetamol and drink water.

Thanks

  • Always do check with her pharmacist. Worth considering whether a bit of Ubiquinol may safely help? It provides cell functioning energy, and our GP strongly recommended it against statin side effects, which include fatigue. But as I say, must check.

  • Hello, my husband restarted BCG after quite a long break and his first treatment really affected him and he felt it was unlikely he would be able to finish the course but from the second one onwards, the side effects  were much less severe. Tiring and some pain but manageable. He is a lot younger but he tends to hit it with strong pain relief - your mum could ask if there is something stronger she can take. A bath at the end of the day seems to help as well. Wishing you both well.
