Chemotherapy, scans then RC

Hello, I m new here.

Last August my husband  (52) was diagnosed with g2 (lower) papillary bladder cancer. A TURBT removed it completely and he was given no treatment, not even a one off dose of internal chemo. In December when they checked his bladder was full of tumours. Two more TURBTs failed to clear it. A PET scan revealed likely spread to two pelvic nodes although they couldn't be completely sure. Maybe the PET was picking up on infection. After some discussion he was advised to have chemotherapy intravenously - gem/cis. He has just finished 3 cycles with one to go and scans looming. If no progression is shown they will go ahead with RC. It has been a rocky road with infection,  antibiotics,  two delayed sessions, v low and now v high white blood cells. The biopsies from the two failed TURBTs showed g2 but higher one this time and no muscle invasion. Apparently the cancer could have spread through the blood to the nodes or maybe the biopsies missed the muscle invasion. It seems the cancer is not behaving in the way that the pathology would suggest.

Its such a scary time, I guess I m just looking for some reassurance although I know only scans wills do that. Any tips gratefully recieved.

Thank you

  • Hello  and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear your husband's situation. We understand how the stressful the uncertainty can be. There may be a few weeks wait following the chemo to let things settle down before they look again. The scans will also help with the next step. Others here have had bladder removal and should be able to help with any questions. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
