OK firstly hello everyone
I will try and keep thi short(ish)
I am a 50 year old male and i was diagnosed with high grade superficial bladder cancer in my urethra last June/July. I was told they would do a cystectomy but then they did an MRI and they could see no signs so decided to refer me to another hospital (I had many, many delays in treatment and had around 3/4 cystoscopies, each time dealing with what was there and then they found CIS in my right ureter.
The plan changed again to removing my kidney & ureter and treating bladder with BCG and urethra with mytomyacin gel.
I was then seen at the new hospital and they took over my care but wanted to do their own tests. They found no signs of cancer with a cystoscopy that was November.
They decided that because of previous findings that yes they would remove kidney / ureter. This was scheduled for Febuary.
Whilst doing a cystoscopy before the actual surgery they found it had come back in the urethra, ureter and had appeared now in my bladder so they abandoned surgery to wait for biopsy results.
Once again plan was decided to try the surgery again but they order a PET-CT scan as one of my lymph nodes was on the borderline.
Then things seem to have just gone crazy, i saw the consultant again who said unfortunately the lymph node was positive i believe he said near the aorta. So they will need to refer me to oncologist for Chemo and if the cancer responds then revisiting the csystecomy.
So i apologise for the long winded post but i have no idea what i am dealing with here and reading only makes things worse.
Is it possible that if it has spread from my ureter to the lymph node near aorta that this can be cured by chemo or removal?
or am i now at stage 4 and palliative care, i just dont know as i cant seem to piece everythingg together.
I just feel so angry that they were talking about removing the bladder etc in August and now i feel it is too late
Anyone with experience of bladder cancer spread to lymph nodes if you have any advice you can share it would be appreciated.
That's so good to hear some positive news for you. One day at a time, take the best care of yourself you can lots of good fresh food, fruit veggies etc, some treats too. It sounds more positive with either operation or immunotherapy, which I would go for but I am not you and you have to follow their lead I suppose. Glad things looking up a, little. Keep strong.
So i received a letter yesterday from my oncologist it was a copy of the letter sent to Urologist. It stated that the response i had to chemo was what they were hoping for and asking him to consider surgery for the removal of the primary. It stated that the only site of metatstasis(sp) was 1 para aortic lymph node which had responded to chemo.
So heres hoping that surgery will help prolong my poor diagnosis and i can finally go on the holiday the we first booked in 2020 and have moved 6 times with covid etc.
The holiday sounds fabulous. I am about to get away for my first break since diagnosis (T4 N1 M0). Reading your story, wow, been through the wringer chefski. Keep on keeping on though, day by day, step by step. Couple of things, holiday and insurance (if travelling abroad) and get a letter of OK from your oncologist. Plus, if staying in the UK, remember your paperwork and check if your oncologist would recommend the best hospital in the locale for dealing with you in the unlikely event of a complication, etc.
When it arrives, have a great break, set a rule, no C chat after....etc
Have a corker.
Simon
Well Chemo now finished 6 cycles.
Had appointment with the urologist yesterday, he said that everything depends on my exit scan which is due next Thursday. If the scan is the same as it was at midpoint then they are going to do a cystoscopy to check my bladder etc and then decide whether they start with removing my right kidney and ureter and treating my bladder with BCG or whether they will just remove kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate and urethra.
So have my fingers crossed but still cant get an answer to some questions nobody will now say whether they are looking at potentially being cancer free (yes i know it can come back) or whether this is still palliative. So frustrating but still keeping positive and holding out hope :)
Thanks grumpyparr always keep going and as you say day by day. Now just waiting on plan to see when surgery will be to try and squeeze in the holiday hopefully before but if they just remove kidney maybe still xmas :)
Hi chefski,Good to hear you have got through the chemo.I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you for positive results. It really isn’t good enough that you have been messed about and had all these delays. It does make me cross that communication can be so poor and the patient is not informed of what is happening.Best wishes for your scan.Love Jane x
Hey Chefski, chemo smashed, I get my 4th next week! Fingers crossed for next week, hope the news is positive, you get the opportunity to holiday and recover fully.
In fact, let's all err on the side of positive, your cancer has gone, a treatment plan for surgery is agreed, carried out with minimal delay and you get to keep on keeping on.
Big hugs and positive vibes
Simon
