I'm sure this is a common issue but cannot find a directly related discussion, nor advice.
I am on 'day one' recovery following my first TURBT treatment. I was discharged on the same day with a catheter and now at home.
I am awaiting my first bowel movement since the Op. However when trying to 'encourage' a movement I fear that any pressure applied with blow the catheter out of my body. I'm sure that this is primarily psychological although the whole process of trying to evacuate feels generally uncomfortable with the catheter (rather than painful). The catheter is due for removal in a couple of days. Am I safe to 'push' in the meantime? I do hope this makes sense.

Hi MRit,I would have thought you would be ok to push.Keep up your fluid intake as this will help both bladder and bowels. It will be interesting to see what others think.I have looked after people who have had a bowel movement and retained their catheters.I hope you are not in too much discomfort ? Best wishes for a speedy recovery.Jane
