I’m starting my 20 sessions of chemo radiation on the 12th . Just wondered if anyone else is doing this at the moment and how you are getting on .
Hi . It's a few years since I had my RT and so far, so good. I didn't have a problem with it and carried on a normal social life throughout treatment. I did 30 sessions. The daily trips were a bit tiering but doable. Each session only lasts about 15 minutes and is painless, but there is usually a lot of waiting. They never seem to be on time. I had a coffee and toasted tea cake in the waiting area when waiting. You see many of the same people each day and in my case it was a friendly and upbeat atmosphere. Only after treatment finished, I started having a few after effects. Some bouts of fatigue and dodgy bowels for a few weeks, but it got back to normal. I had a chemo pump for two of my weeks, but again, no problems. Touch wood, no long term problems. I was transported daily by the NHS volunteer ambulance car service which was great. I hope all goes well and if you have any questions I will try and help. Best wishes.
Thanks Rily. I will take a book in case of waits ! I live about 20 min drive from hospital so am thinking I’ll be ok to get myself there . If it gets difficult there’s a good volunteer transport thing I could find out about. Fingers crossed it will be ok .
Hi Betty. Just to add. If you are driving, you may be entitled to free hospital parking. The RT patients at my hospital were given parking passes. Best wishes.
