Hi all
I start BCG next week, second treatment clashes with a much looked forward to evening in London. We've had to cancel so much over the summer because of the cancer, that I'm really keen to go.
I've been through it with the CNS and she is booking me in first session in the morning - I'll be getting the train in the afternoon. She didn't feel that I should cancel but the closer we get, am I being shortsighted?
Can anyone share their experience on early BCG - were there immediate side effects, do you usually just stay at home on the treatment day?
I really wouldn't be able to go if I were in your place ... I managed to take the dog for a small walk but wouldn't be at ease being away from a toilet for long ... the drinking of lots of water helps the flushing out but causes so many toilet visits .. maybe others didn't have urgency but I did and to be honest didn't do a lot on my treatment day .. hope all goes well with your treatments take care xx love Tina
Thanks Tina - I think I'll see how I go next week and go from there...
Bear in mind that you’ll have to retain the BCG in your bladder for 2 hours. When it is released you’ll need to disinfect the toilet to avoid contact with others for 6 hours . For the sake of comfort and knowing that London will still be there another day I’d agree with Tina.
Hi catlady101, my OH used to feel very tired after treatments. but it could depend on timings and determination for you. Very fair point by WallyB about 6 hours of toilet cleaning. But if that would be over before you needed to set off, I'd say it's a maybe maybe. You could invest in a pack of Tena pants just in case you can't get to the loo while travelling or during the evening? Not great but you might prefer this to missing out. Only you can decided as is often said.
Hope you do make it

Thanks all - this is the reason I'm asking - it's unknown territory for me. Appreciate your input
Hi Catlady, it’s a hard call for you to make, at least it’s your second appointment so at least you will know how you got on with the first one, it’s a bit of a hassle for the 6 hrs afterwards but that should be over with if you have an early appointment. My husband didn’t really have any after effects from all 6 of his treatments apart from passing a bit of blood during the day of his last one, the only problem that he had was frequently needing to urinate, but that’s often the case normally, I think using a pad would help relieve you of the worry of accessing a toilet. Perhaps hope to go and make the decision on the day when you see how you feel. I hope you make it and have a lovely time. Jean.
I was wondering if when I start with bcg in a few weeks possibly, will I be able to continue to go to work maybe not the day after as I could work from home but after that.
I work for NHS in an office so not too stressful.
I found that BCG was inconvenient on the day of procedure but life was back to normal the following day.
That's good to hear WallyB, how are you doing at the moment, have not seen any posts from you in a while.
