I had my TURBT three weeks ago and have a phone consultation with my consultant tomorrow.  For those who are passed this stage, can you suggest any questions I may want to ask?  Things you wished you’d asked at the beginning that may have helped?  Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Hi . If it is confirmed as cancer, then the main thing you need to know is the stage (T) and grade (G). These determine the next step. Also what treatment is proposed. Once you know these, we will be able to offer more info going forward. Best to have someone with you as you can be overloaded with information which is hard to take in and easy to forget. Take notes if you can. Also, ask to be copied in to the meeting notes as things are a lot easier to understand when in black and white. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi infojo,I asked for copies of hospital letters. If it was an appointment letter I wrote a note on top of who I had seen and what was discussed.I keep all these in date order in a file.I’ve found this helpful particularly recently as the hospital has forgotten my follow up.As rily has said you need to know the stage and grade and the treatment plan.I took my sister with me for the surgeons appointment which was just as well as she asked some questions I hadn’t even thought about.I did write questions down and the answers.I remember asking roughly how long I would be in hospital.Everything happened so fast for me it was all a blur.Best wishes for tomorrow.Jane

  • I had my results which were  Grade 2 low risk pta.  I have six weeks of chemo starting 18/10 and then another op four weeks later as the root of my tumour is in my ureter and was not fully removed due to lack of access.  I had a stent inserted to allow the chemo to get to the root site during the TURBT and the second op with general anaesthetic will allow them to get “a better look at it” with the possibility of lasering it.  I feel a little uncomfortable about the root in the ureter as everything else was “early” and “surface” and my mind is making it more sinister than it probably is.  But we have a plan, I’m positive and feeling fortunate that my body haemorrhaged when it did and I was referred so quickly to urology.

  • Hi infojo,Best wishes for your treatment.Love Jane x
