  • Hi he had a operation to remove tumor in July he the tumour is in his muscle of bladder he had scans and it hasn’t spread anyone else from ct scan he is having chemotherapy next Tuesday to  kill off any cancer cells that can’t be seen on scan he is having to different types of chemo drugs for his first session not sure of names

  • Hi . Is it intravesical chemo (in to the bladder) or intravenous (via the veins) ? Mine was also muscle invasive. I had 6 weeks of chemo (Gem/Cis) and got through it without any problems. I then went on to radiotherapy. I was 63 at the time, now 71. When you know exactly what treatment it will be, we will be able to offer more info. Feel free to ask any questions.

  • Hi,

Welcome to the group and take a deep breath and stand back. You've come to the right place for help and support.

Now I'm not an oncologist, but it seems that the cancer has been caught early and most forms of bladder cancer can be treated successfully. The chemo appears to be a follow up, which is not uncommon. However, as Riley says a little bit more info would be helpful.

    Look forward and not back.Blush

  • The chemo will be thought a Canula in his vain he has the chemo in his bladder already when he had tumour removed

  • That’s good to hear just a lot to take in and think about and get thought yes my husband a 61

  • Hi Rose. It does sound like a regimen of Gem/Cis (Gemcitabine and Cisplatin) or one of the variants which is the usual. Usually a long day one week followed by half day the next. If going this route, your husband needs to wear comfortable clothes as it can be a long day. Plenty of snacks and drinks and something to keep him occupied. Get a good quality mouthwash and use regularly to help prevent mouth sores. He should be given anti sickness pills. These need to be taken as prescribed as they are designed to prevent nausea rather than stopping it if it happens. Although in the chair for a long time, most of the time it is just a saline solution to keep the kidneys healthy. The drug is only administered in intervals. He may have to have a blood test before each treatment to check bloods have recovered enough from last treatment. I had an arrangement with the practice nurse at my GPs rather than travelling to the hospital, but this may have changed post Covid. I didn't have any real problems to talk about besides a bit of tiredness towards the end, but some people do have some sort of side effects. I drove myself to all treatments. Hope I haven't overloaded you with info. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

  • Hi

I had three rounds of chemo. Each round has two sessions about a week apart. The long sessions take up most of the day as you have saline flushes via drip before and after the chemo is administered. I didn't have too many side effects apart from fatigue. Although the last session knocked my liver function for six, but it was temporary and got to normal within a week.
