Hi all I had an ovary scan as a yearly check up and found a 5mm x 4mm polyp on my bladder! Was told to contact gp. I have the camera in a weeks time but I’m terrified! I’ve Googled so so much I’ve scared myself something stupid! I’m convinced it’s cancer and that it’s else where :( I haven’t had any symptoms of anything the scan was just an annual one .. all I find are stories of how things found are cancerous! Any one had anything similar ..thank you :)

  • I can understand you’re scared-we all are when we don’t know what something is. But that is fear of the unknown. And it looks like you’ve magnified your fear levels by looking at the quack that is dr Google, which would immediately take you to a worst case scenario for everything. Try not to do that and try not to second guess what this might be, as dr Google certainly can’t diagnose anything! I’ve had very regular headaches recently-do I worry it’s a brain tumour? No. I assume I am dehydrated and need to up my water intake.

Whatever is there in your bladder, you cannot change it by worrying, and you will soon have results and be able to move forward. I’m with Old Bob about not worrying about what you can’t control, and don’t “borrow worry” when you don’t have the information you need yet. I know that’s hard to do, but it was my way of dealing with things prior to my own diagnosis.

I hope your cystoscopy goes smoothly and you have the best possible results.

  • My Maw86. "down to 3- or 6- monthly checks" means he has no cancer at the moment and hasn't had for several years. The checks are spaced closely enough to catch any recurrence in time to deal with it. But he hasn't had any. The only reason for a couple of 'come back in 3 months' calls is red patches which are common after treatment. There's every possibility you could be in a similarly good place in five years' time.

Why not ask your Gp for some short term calming meds if you find it impossible to calm down. Also you can talk to MacMillan helpiine 8 till 8 7 days.

Get or do something to take your mind off things. Flower arranging, knitting, or even batch cooking, as I do. In another life, I was a chef so I enjoy cooking. I always cook enough for several meals and freeze them so I have more time for my other hobbies.

As I live alone no one ever complains about frozen foodThumbsup

And don't be scared. it only causes wrinkles. You are showing signs of strength by admitting you are scared.

  • Thank you all! Yes Google really has not helped things :( maybe I should have looked at forums first rather than google! Doctor has given me some diazepam to help me sleep and help me calm as I’ve been awful! I’m hoping if it is cancerous it’s caught early …I’m just scared of what lies ahead..

  • Good afternoon Maw86 and how are you today. I have to admit I’m with old Bob on this. My Father in law regularly reminded everybody who’d listen that if you worry you die and if you don’t worry you die so why worry.? Just for fun why not read all the positive comments you find on here and see which ones you find helpful . And take heed of old Bob and avoid the wrinkles , they’re for prunes , best wishes, J.

  • I’m trying to now keep away from google…there have been days where my head literally been buried in my phone all day “researching” :( I am trying to look at the positive stories ..people being well for years and years after removal ..

  • I did sadly read that only 1% of bladder masses are benign. :(

  • Hi Maw86,It’s natural to feel worried.Dr google is not a good idea so try to avoid it if you can.As the others have said try to find something to take your mind off your concerns.I do family history if I’m stressed as it’s absorbing. We are all here to help so keep posting,Love Jane xx

  • Are you reading from reputable sources? Anyone can say anything on the internet so it’s really best not to be “researching” when you don’t know what’s wrong-it will just continue to ramp your anxiety to no purpose.

It’s best to keep busy with something more useful, truly. We are all speaking with your best interests at heart, having been through cancer ourselves, or caring for a partner.
