Hello, I have been told I am eligible for a partial cystectomy followed by chemo radiotherapy as my 3cm tumour was removed from dome of bladder (t2 mibc).Or I can have another turbt, again with chemo radiotherapy after. Of course I am being advised that radical cystectomy is the gold standard treatment, but as I am (only!) 50 and otherwise healthy I just can't face having a radical cystectomy at this stage in life.
From what I've read partial cystectomy doesn't appear to be used much and I'm wondering if anybody reading has any experience or opinions on this procedure.
Preservation is definitely my first choice but it's what to do, partial or another turbt. Look forward to any thoughts on my road ahead....
Hi ojblossom. Partial cystectomy does not come up here very often. I didn't quite go that far., but they had to dig deep at my first TURBT and I was in hospital for four days. Had a follow up TURBT and then on to chemo followed by chemoradiotherapy. Didn't really have any problems with the treatment. My oncologist disputes the gold standard tag of removal for MIBC. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Thanks for your response, my first turbt was similar, home on day 3 with catheter for 5 days. With your treatment did they ever mention taking lymphnode samples, they say they would do that with a partial cystectomy? The more I read about it not being commonly used the more anxious I feel!
Hi oj. My diagnosis was T3pG3N0. The N0 meaning no sign of lymph node involvement. I had a follow up TURBT which was a lot easier than he first. In and out in a few hours. Then various MRI and CT scans and urine cytology. I then met my oncologist who offered me bladder preservation. Best wishes.
Hi ojblossom,Welcome to the group.I haven’t come across anyone having had a partial cystectomy.I wonder whether it’s to do with the position of your tumour ? I hope your urologist will be able to answer all your questions.Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your TURBT.Jane
