Hi, new to this forum and this is my first post.
I have my first of six BCG tomorrow. Just wondered about the procedure. I have deliberately steered clear of Google.
I understand the catheta bit, but how long is the BCG retained in your bladder and do they drain it before removing the catheta or do you pass it naturally?
I seemed to remember the consultant mentioning 2 hours, but it was all a bit of a blur to be honest.
Any ideas how long it will take as I need to arrange transport
Many thanks
Colin
BCG is Baccillus Collmette - Guerine which was originally developed to treat tuberculosis but was found to be effective in treating bladder cancer cells. It is introduced into the bladder to clear up residual cancer cells .
I am hardly an expert, and also new to this forum. BCG is a TB vaccine which when inserted into the bladder assists in the stabilisation of pre cancerous cells.
I am sure there are others more knowledgeable who can provide a better explanation.
Regards,
Colin
. Just to add to the above. BCG treatment is an immunotherapy treatment designed to clear and help prevent recurrences of BC. Used for early stage and superficial BC. Not suitable for more advanced bladder cancer. Best wishes.
