Having had the all clear from the first check after the BCG induction course, I have had the first of the 3 treatments course after the induction last Thursday. Not very good. I am now definitely convinced that the way they administer the treatment is key to your ability to take BCG. I have had 7 treatments so far. 4 with the very good nurse and 3 with other ... not so good ones. The treatments with the good one all went really smoothly and I didn't suffer any bad effects. The treatments with the others all were painful during the treatment and mostly after, with blood in the urine, pain, burning, and this time (worse so far) even several blood clots. The treatments with the good nurse were n. 1, 3, 4 and 5, while 2, 6 and 7 were the bad ones. I think that if I had had the reactions and effects I had this time I might not have completed the induction!. The literature seem to suggest that being able to take BCG is only a subjective issue. How your organism reacts to the drug. I really think that a lot is certainly linked with the ability of administering the treatment without causing bruises, infections or irritation.
Hopefully the next times I will have thegood nurse...!
I have had 6 induction and 3 maintenance bcg treatments I can't say it was really bad but not a walk in the park.. I've had mine early morning and usually by 4pm things have started to ease ..I think ive been pretty lucky with the nurses as I've had no problem having it and I hope this pattern keeps going ..I have 3 more treatments starting on November 24th..so far so good I have been clear on check ups ..I'm hoping this will keep going as I know this can change at any time .. I was diagnosed in December 2020 with cis which is high grade .. I am 66 years old ..keep going not easy but try to take one day at a time ..
I was very anxious when I went in to be checked and to top it all I was the last one going down theatre .. it was all clear so I was so thrilled my face was all flushed lol hope all goes well for you.. love Tina I tried to put my name in as housewife but only hou came out for some reason lol
I managed 9. The 9th left me with pain in my prostate area for 8 weeks after.
As I was clear after the induction and the maintenance my consultant was happy for me to stop and go on to 3m flexis for the next 2 years.
I had the first of those flexis last week and am still clear.
The nurses that did my BCG were excellent. I never had a single problem. In fact for the 9th and last one I only realised it had been completed when I saw her taking the catheter out. I hadn't felt a thing.
