So I had my post Gem/Cis CT scan on Monday 18th October. At 5pm on Wednesday I had a call from an Oncology Doc at the hospital to say the report hadn’t been finalised but they had been informed that I had a blood clot. I would need to pack an overnight bag and go to hospital, they will ring me back when a bed is free. I got the call to go in at 1 am on Thursday morning. Saw a doc at 4am. The clot was in my aorta but he needed to liaise with vascular surgeon on how best to treat it. Saw the same doc at 7 am who said Vascular surgeon didn’t want to commit without full report from radiology. Saw senior oncology doc at 10 am who said the report still wasn’t finalised but they’d put me on blood thinning injections that I need to do myself for 6 months. Got discharged at about 2pm on the Thursday. 5pm yesterday (Friday) got a call from my oncology nurse, bless her, who rang to commiserate with me on the awful shock I’d had and to put my mind at rest that there was no cancer found outside the bladder and that they’d had the MDT meeting that morning and I’d be getting an appointment in the post from the Urologist to discuss everything. She said there were additional risks for surgery because of the clot but the urologist was best qualified to go through that when I see him.
I can’t deny the whole shock of the clot thing together with the lack of sleep waiting to go into hospital and waiting to be seen etc made me extremely emotional these last few days but I feel better today and can at least start focusing on a preparing for the next step. Regards Linda
Stritty. Hi Linda. That must have been a really big and worrying shock for you. The positive is that the clot was found and they can treat it. Also the cancer confined to the bladder will make it easier to deal with. Good to know they are looking after you. Best wishes.
Hi Linda so sorry to hear this has happened on top of all you're dealing with.. good to hear that no cancer was found outside the bladder as I know how much this was worrying you .. it's amazing that the ct scan picked up a clot in your arota like mine picked up an anuerysm in mine xx I was gobsmacked as I really didn't expect to hear that but I now know my limits to things like lifting heavy things and exertion.. neither of us expected to hear this but by knowing we can be monitored so many people don't get the chance to get treated xx such worrying times for us but please try to take one day at a time it's so hard to stay positive sometimes but this is our only choice .. we have been dealt these cards and have to do our very best to deal with them xx I have been so fortunate up till now and have been blessed with good health so many others suffer ill health at an early age xx I try my best to feel grateful to all my blessings and a loving family is certainly a main one xx thinking about you and sending you love xx everything will work out Linda xx take care brave lady xx
Definitely have my sympathy. I developed kidney issues post surgery and the amount of twoing and throwing between home and the Hospital. However, everything is ok now and I'm sure that everything will be sorted out for you. Glad the cancer us still localised, it will make treatment easier.
