Finished the 6 induction course of BCG the 9th of September. Wednesday it's the first checkup after the TURBT (8th July). I am not too worried. Only thing is I seem to have started having a weaker urine flow in the last few weeks ... Maybe consequence of the last BCG (my "expert" nurse was away and I think the guys who covered for her were not as "expert" ..). Very strange: I seem to have more urge to go ... Then, it's only a small quantity. Then, after 1/2 an hour same... Not all day like that, but a few times in a row during the day. The obvious fear is that there is (are) new growth close to the bladder exit, obstructing the flow... Isn't the brain a bad companion in these circumstances? There should be a brain plug, or an off button....!
Oh well, hopefully Wednesday after lunch I am coming home (admission at 7.30!)
Marco
Hi Marco. We do tend to overthink anything untoward and it is difficult not to worry about what it may be. We know BCG causes many various side effects, so hopefully that is all it is. Good luck with your check up on Wednesday. Not too long to wait. Best wishes.
Hi Marco, I find that happens after each TURBT. Although I didn't have BCG, but I did have Epirubicin & had those same side effect too. I had 6 doses, & lived in the toilet for about 2 months after that. Sometimes I feel that my bladder is like a pinball machine & that the urine gets stuck as when I get up from the toilet, or walk away I have to keep going back. This happens quite a lot when I'm lying in bed at night, especially after the treatment. it does ease up eventually. All the best!
OK, checkup done yesterday. This one was a lot lighter than the actual TUBT. It is a rigid cystoscopy. For sure they take biopsies and then, if they find new growths, they will perform another TURBT. Luckily I did not have new growths, only some "non specific tissue changes" that the consultant said he thought were either scar tissue form the previous TURBT or consequence of the BCG. But he couldn't tell before the lab results, obviously. He thinks that I will very likely go on having my BCG maintenance treatments … crossed fingers. Amazing that the day after I feel as if I had nothing done … even my back pain seems to be better. Maybe the anesthetic has relaxed the muscles and for a few days it's going to be no pain … the TURBT was the same: for some time I did not have back pain … maybe not suggested as a cure...!
One thing they normally don't tell you when you go through these GA operations is that they use a tube to make you breathe and that frequently leaves a sore throat for a day or so … The first time I thought I had caught a sore throat (cold)…
But all in all, this time it was really painless and not so worrying like the first TURBT. Medical staff fantastic, from the receptionist, to the nurses and consultant and anesthetist …
Hi Marco. Sounds a really good result. There will always be some left over scars and inflammation for a while, but an all clear is well worth it. Good to know you got through the procedure ok. Best wishes going forward.
