Good evening,
I was diagnosed with NMIBC in April of 2020 and have had multiple TURPS to address the recurrence of single low grade non muscle invasive tumors. I want to say the procedure scheduled for next Tuesday will be my third TURP since the initial tumor was removed. I had one installation of mitomycin after the second TURP but no other therapy. The frequency of the tumors reoccurring is getting shorter. After the initial TURP I was tumor free for 7 months, after that I was tumor free for 6 months, now I have only been tumor free for two months. Today after my cystoscopy the doctor mentioned that we may go to BCG installations after my upcoming surgery. Any input?
Good morning Newbe and welcome. From my experience BCG is a fairly standard immunotherapy procedure after TURBT to mop up any remainder after tumour removal. I finished 6 BCG in May and found to be clear. The procedure is straightforward mildly uncomfortable and it works !
My brother had multiple TURBT for low grade recurrences. At one point there was a G2 & was told would have BCG if a further G2, but luckily not. Eventually he was clear long enough to be discharged. BCG is to deter high grade recurrences but can have unpleasant side effects - so not to be undertaken lightly. However, if you have high grade NMIBC then you do need to consider aggressive treatment to prevent it becoming muscle invasive.
