Skin discoloration - is it permanent????

Hi. I'm 4 weeks post-treatment. I gather it's the cause of the radiation burns, but I have areas around my genitals and bottom that are discolored, and also have 'water-marks' where the skin that died peeled off, and left two different colored areas, and a darker color at the join in between.

We're in the middle of Summer here, but I couldn't wear togs ("bathers" or a bikini) as these areas would be visible.

Do these adjust by themselves till they are no longer noticeable, or are they permanent.... and anything I can do to help them along?

Thanks <3

  • Hi Astralita, I am 6 weeks post treatment and would say the discolouration has faded. Still visible in groin, but better than it was. Depths of winter here so no chance of bikinis anyway ! Though to be honest I still can’t wear ordinary knickers anyway as the elastic in the groin would be too uncomfortable, still in boxer shorts . I was told to just keep moisturising the skin. Hope that helps.

  • Hi yes the discoloration will fade.  I am almost 2.5 years post treatment and have no discoloration of the skin. During treatment the area was bright red, then it turned a very dark brown before slowing fading to the usual colour of my skin. Bev

  • Hi, I finished just before Christmas and had quite a lot of discoloration and peeling skin but I'm happy to report it is fading well so hopefully yours will too - you might even be in your bikini by the end of summer. I think just keeping the area moisturised and allowing the new skin to come through is all you can do. Good luck though!
