Hi ,

Does anyone take a probiotic  they can recommend for after treatment ?  My diet is pretty healthy , I do eat some natural yoghurt every day , not sure if it’s enough to get healthy bacteria in my gut .

Thanks

  • Hello Sharon

I take many supplements but I must admit not probiotics.  However I do occasionally have probiotic drinks which I buy from Aldi (much cheaper and same ingredients) and share them with my grandchildren - they like the little bottles!  I also have Greek yoghurt nearly every day, so hopefully I have enough healthy bacteria.

It is a bit of a minefield out there with knowing what to take with supplements too, I subscribe to Which? and in a recent article one of the best is Asda's Multivitamins and Minerals and it is mind-boggling that their tablets work out at 5p a day and are only 4% behind the most highly rated which are at 67p a day!

Hope you get more helpful answers

  • Hi Sharon

I have Kefir and berries with my breakfast each and every day along with a diet high in fruit/veg and fibre and they contain prebiotics , I wasn’t able to have Kefir during chemoradiotherapy treatment but resumed once it was finished and also supplemented that with some Yakult drinks for a boost. I’d say if you’re not used to taking these you need to introduce them gradually.

I also try to include fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut if I can but don’t eat those regularly.

You can also purchase probiotic capsules from health shops but I’ve never felt the need to try those.

  • max meny priser Natural yogurt helps, but some people find adding a broad-spectrum probiotic post-treatment gives better gut support.

  • Hi Sharon ( )

I take symprove periodically, its not the cheapest hence why I don't use it all the time. I try to eat sauerkraut, kimchi regular and I drink kombucha all good for your gut health. Xx

  • Hiya Sharon ( ),

I would highly recommend the goats milk kefir from The Chuckling Goat, again not the cheapest but I think with supplements you definitely get what you pay for. The goats milk kefir is really live, it’s almost fizzy, but this is testament to the amount of live bacteria in the kefir. I’ve tried several different kinds & always go back to The Chuckling Goat. They’re an independent goat farm in Wales & you can order online, take a look at their website they do loads of different things including kefir based skincare!

  • Thank you Irene ,

Looking at supplements is a minefield , and knowing what’s the best to take .Will look at Asda’s multivitamins . I would never have thought to look there .

    Best wishes

  • Thanks Monty ,

I tried Kefir a few months ago , but it gave me quite bad tummy pain . I think it was too soon after treatment . I maybe ok now as it’s 7 months since I finished.
I eat plenty of veg and berries and have had some kimchi a couple of times . I was wondering about probiotics as I’ve seen them recommended for bloating .

  • Thanks Bungle .

i’m trying to add more fermented foods ,Can’t say I enjoy the taste of them , but needs must .
Seemed easier to take a capsule , but there are soo many different makes of probiotics to choose from .
I expect getting the bacteria from food is better .

    Best wishes

  • Hi Nicola ,

How much of the kefir would you need to take to be effective . I can’t bear goats cheese or milk , but at a push if it’s very good I think I could manage a couple of spoonfuls.

I bet it’s very good for you and will look at their website .

    Best wishes
