Morning everyone ,

I have been told by GP to try the low fodmap diet which some of you have successfully tried .

it’s a minefield trying to get the ingredients together so I’m working on the ones I know .

the problem I have is trying to put weight on and this diet limits a lot of my calorie intake .

has anyone successfully achieved this ?
many thanks

  • Hi  ,

I haven’t actually followed a fodmap diet, from what I understand it’s quite straightforward although pretty restrictive.

I do understand what you mean about a lot of the foods being low calorie though. Having had a quick look at a fodmap food chart maybe try & bulk your meals out with root veg & potatoes, these will be higher in calories, also gluten free bread, rice & fodmap friendly cheeses will all be more calorie dense.

I’m not sure how much advice or information your GP gave you so if you haven’t already take a look at this link, it may be helpful, it gives an example menu too.

  • Hello

I am sorry I can't help at all, I have never tried the diet.  However I am also trying to gain weight so I know how challenging this can be.  I had a quick look at the information link Nicola sent and I notice dairy isn't mentioned and as outlined, certain cheeses could be useful in upping your calories.

Best of luck, and I do hope it helps, you have been having a tough time.
