Well, that's a bit dramatic. But I feel a bit dramatic. It's back to the gastroenterologist today, which means not only a DRE but the dreaded anoscopy. She sent in a px for a relax pill to take before I go in. I'm sure hoping it helps, not just with the anxiety but being able to relax my anal muscles enough to get through it. I requested the tiniest anoscope they have, and I hope they listen.
If it's another terrible session, and/or a recovery that involves me pacing the hallways in the night, wringing my hands and moaning like a Victorian wraith, I'm going to refuse further anoscopies and I'm pretty sure my lovely gastro doc will fire me.
Y'all lovely people in Merry Olde are so lucky not to be subjected to these. I just want a frickin' scan like it oughta be!
Whiny, anxious Suz
Once again, Red, you've soothed my mind on questions that either I haven't thought to ask or on which I don't get good answers. I have no doubt that it was my doctor's experienced eye that told her to keep looking.
And now that I have pharmacological coping help, I can do it.
So, the big question mark is, how good is one's doctor? I may not hit the jackpot twice, but am praying that the replacement is in my doctor's league.
Or I may hustle out to Houston and poach yours!
:D Suz
I bet your new (temporary) doctor will be great. Birds of a feather, and all that… Because your fav is awesome, I doubt she’d trust her patent load to someone who’s not. Besides, hopefully you need the doctor veeeeerrrrrryyyy rarely going forward, anyway!
Hugs,
Red
Hello Suz, you poor soul, how absolutely awful for you and the bloody insurance companies having the final say, that's beyond belief. We all moan about the NHS, but we're so lucky to have it, pray it's never completely sold off because we'll all be in the same boat then. Good luck with the pain - I know just what you're enduring - I'm going to increase my Gabapentin today. Lots of love. Bee Xx
Hello Irene, I must ask what is a DRE? Sounds horrendous. I've been meaning to message you to say I've had two or three really good days and on Tuesday we went to some friends for coffee, first time since about September and in the evening I actually went to choir. It's about a 6 mile drive, which I would say is my limit. It was so good to see everyone, but I didn't enjoy the music. We have a new MD and instead of doing a large work, eg Messiah, or Elijah, we're doing opera! Awful. Anyway, even with my ring, I could only sit for about 40 minutes, needed the loo anyway, so left early and came home. Still, I went, first time I've been out alone at night since some time last year, so I felt it was a huge step forward. Of course next day I paid for it and spent a lot of time on my bed, reading. But I'll keep on fighting and like you, take the dogs out every day. Keep well and enjoy the sunshine. I gather there's a hosepipe ban in the West Country. Bee Xxx
Suz, I'm so pleased to hear that you had some relief from the pain, it's awful isn't it. I'm now taking 6 Gaba a day and my eyes water a lot and my balance is worse than it normally is, but I'm hoping the Gaba will eventually stop the pain, but it takes a long time to get into the system apparently. I started it on 26th April and it's def helped, but I wish it would stop the pain altogether. Good luck with it all. TG we all have each other to talk to and give and receive support. Bee Xxx
Hello Bee
A DRE is a digital rectal exam, where the doctor inserts his finger into the rectum and has a feel around; apparently this can show up all sorts of things and isn't just used for anal cancer. But yes, it isn't the most comfortable of exams! But I think a couple of years down the line from diagnosis I cease to be embarrassed about most things now, if we were we would never get things done.
Well done on getting out and about, baby steps is the way to go!
Irene xx
