Hi everyone

just an update from my last post. I had biopsies taken from anal canal today under anaesthetic following new pain over past several months. I put it down to radiation proctitis and tried to manage it with anusol but pain getting no better and faecal incontinence increasing. After despair with it all contacted colorectal nurses who liaised with oncologist and got me seen end of November. My eua was delayed due to staffing issues with COVID. I m due discharge in May back to GP. I asked the surgeon I m hoping it’s something I can manage myself but depends what they think it is. I wish I’d mentioned it earlier now to oncology. To make matters worse my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in August 2021 and starts his journey with radiotherapy in 2 weeks. I ll keep updated once I know outcome.
Keep safe

Peter

  • Hi

Thanks for the update. You obviously did the right thing in getting things checked out & I’ve got everything crossed that your biopsy results come back clear. I’m now on annual reviews but I always mention any new (& old) niggles at my appointments & know I can contact my surgeon in between appointments if I’ve any concerns.

The pandemics impact on other NHS services has a lot to answer for doesn’t it? I fear it’s legacy will go on for years to come!

I’m so sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis also, it must be a very difficult time for you both. You have first hand experience of the impact radiotherapy can have physically & psychologically & I’m sure you’ll be a huge source of support for him. I’m thinking of you both & sending positive, healing thoughts your way. Please do let us know how it goes.

    Nicola
