Hi all .. I’m new here, hope you are all doing ok.

Im a 51 year old woman and i am about to start my Radiotherapy and Chemo 13th October for T2 stage anal cancer.Been racing around trying to get everything and everyone organised, adrenaline has taken over I think! .. Today I’m just taking some me time and the nerves are really starting to kick in about the unknown..I feel positive sometimes even to positive or am I just being naive?
I wondered if anyone was going through a similar thing?
many thanks in advance!

  • Hi ,

Yes I used Aqueous cream a lot during treatment especially to wash with & 2 years on I still do as I find anything else seems to dry out the new skin & then it splits quite easily. I used to absolutely lather it on each time I went to the loo & at bedtime too.

Aww that itch is a pain isn’t it? especially if it’s disturbing your sleep, to be honest it didn’t last too long for me it just seemed like a short stage during treatment, it returned again for a short time when I was healing too. Mention to your team that the antihistamine isn’t doing much for you maybe they could suggest something else?

Hope you get some relief with your salt bath.

    Nicola

  • Hi Ruby1969, how did your salt bath go? I’m a bit sore at the moment, this happens on and off and the salt baths are very helpful. X

  • Hi 1in500 .. Not very well at the moment, perhaps should do it more often? ..  The itch has kept me awake since 3am .. Will talk to them tomorrow.I’m only just into week 3 of treatment, how far along are you? X

  • Ps I just read your profile .. Great news your in the clear!! :0)

  • Hi Ruby1969, that itch really is awful isn’t it. I found the itching worse than pain, pain is easier to alleviate! I was having 2-3 salt baths, with quite a lot of table. salt in, each day. I spent up to 3 hours a day in the bath. Tbh one a day wouldn’t have been enough for me. Salt has amazing healing properties  and it worked for me. Yes, I’m almost 15 months post treatment now. Still anxious from time to time it’ll come back but then I suppose it’s normal to feel like that. You’re over halfway through your treatment, won’t be long now until you’re finished xx

  • Ps sorry meant to say you’re nearly halfway through, I know it’s not the most comfortable treatment but it really is effective xx

Hi I've just joined the community,  I'm nearly end of week 2 treatment and the fanny burn has started to do me in. However I have tonight come up with an invention I'm super excited about, I held an empty loo roll (of which there are plenty) between the lips (sorry graphic but this is the anal cancer forum right, what's not graphic about this experience) and the pee went thru the roll and it was pain free!! I honestly did not know how I would've coped another 4 weeks of treatment and  beyond.

P.s. the portable bidet, OMG this has been my best friend for months. And i also have spent hours and hours in the bath, no salts, just plain water for me.

I hope you guys are doing ok and I'm glad to be here

  • Hi there and welcome to the group, your invention sounds very interesting! I just weed in the bath over a cold shower, it was like passing razor blades. Fortunately that stage didn’t last too long. So you’ll be nearly halfway through treatment soon which is great. The one good thing about this treatment is that it is relatively short x

Thank you for the welcome Slight smile

3 Weeks to go and then the 10 days or so after I hear sude effects continue

  • You’re welcome Grinning side effects do slowly continue to build after radiation finishes but should begin to  reduce after 10-14 days after treatment. I was surprised at how quickly my skin healed. Quite a few people have said the same x
