I have just been diagnosed with anal cancer; not yet started treatment. I believe this is relatively rare cancer. Anyone out there wanting to talk about it?

Well just to update, I went for the trial, and was randomly picked to have standard treatment, which was a bit of a relief. I have had my first chemo and rad, and am just starting my second week of radio(tomorrow). Felt very fatigued originally, but am actually not feeling too bad at the mo. How bad am I going to get though? I just take one day at a time. How did everyone with anal c get on with their treatment, and how are you feeling now?

Just wanted to wish you all the best through your bumpy ride through chemo and RT - very tough to be doing both together, so not surprised you are fatigued! Keep fighting! Imagine those rogue cells being zapped each time you are on that radiotherapy bed... xxxx Penny

Hi, I was diagnosed with anal cancer in March 2008. I started treatment on 21st April having 6 weeks of radiotheraphy. In the 6 weeks i had 2 weeks of chemo as well.

The chemo made me feel very sick and tired.

The chemo i had was in a pump system which enabled me to be at home.

I finished on 30th may and go back on 30th june for a check up.

I had a new CT scan 2 weeks ago and received the results last Thursday - my lymph node had shrunk a little over 1 cm. There's no sign of the cancer spreading. My Dr. now wants me to try oral chemo (Temador) to try to buy me some more time. I have to keep reminding him that I am going to survive this. Has anyone taken Temador?

    Hi to all
Am off to get reslts of MRI and CT scans Tuesday 16th Sept. To see how far this anal cancer (I call my lump Eric its less scary than Cancer)has spread. Very anxious about results but will be happy to know the full story. I have gained encouragement from you posts I dare say I will have lots of questions to ask in the future.

Just got my results and my lump Eric is local with no sign of having spread. So it's time to prepare for the five and a half weeks of treatment. I'm under no illusion that it will be easy but just want to get on with it.

Hope the treatment goes well. I finished my treatment 10th July. I am now feeling a lot better as treatment makes you extremely tired. Just back from a well deserved break in Crete. Am due to see Dr. in two weeks.
Good luck with treatment, it'll soon be behind you - no pun intended!

I was diagnosed with anal cancer a year ago and had to go thru chemo and radiation. Had a very hard time with the treatment and recovery because I also have Aids. I get to see my Drs. (Hematologists and Proctologist) every three mos. for follow up and next month my proctologist wants to do an exploratory surgery(and maybe biopsy) to make sure the cancer has not come back. I have to be under major anesthesia for it. When I look back at what I went through, I could not believe I had the strength and will power to survive it. It was tough.
