Folfoxiri

Hi All,

I was first diagnosed with anal cancer last October and in January 26 I had a tumour removed very low down in the Anal Canal.

Once biopsied it was confirmed to be a mucinous adenocarcinoma which can be resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I then did 25 sessions of Chemoradiation.

Well two weeks ago I got the results back and that there was still residual cancer at the scar site and one pelvic node. The plan now is 3 months of Folfoxiri and if the node shrinks then APR surgery.

Just wondering if anybody had any dealings with this mucinous version which I believe is rare when it comes to anal cancer.

Also how if any of you went through Folfoxiri and what were your side effects like.

Thanks

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the forum although I am really sorry to hear of your ongoing problems.  There have been some forum members with anal adenocarcinoma, but I don't know the finer detail or their treatment except that the Nigro Protocol was standard treatment for them as well.

I'm also have no experience of Folfoxiri but wanted to express support in what must be a difficult time for you.  I do hope that other forum members can offer more experiences.

And please remember we will support however we can.

    Big hug

    Irene xx

  • Hi  , I’d just like to offer another warm welcome to our little corner of the MacMillan Online Community although I’m really sorry to hear of your ongoing struggle with this disease.

I can only really echo what Irene has said in that I know we’ve had some members through the forum that have had a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma (as you say it’s not as common as the squamous cell type that a lot of us have been diagnosed with),  I’m not sure if any have hung around here post treatment as not everyone feels the need to interact, some get what they need from reading others posts but hopefully someone will see your post & get in touch. We do have members here that have had APR surgery too.

In the event that nobody comes forward please know we’re here to support you however we can.

    Nicola
