Good Evening Everyone

My treating hospital is over 70 miles away and so this will mean approximately 3 and half hours travelling every day ... they also have a patient hotel within the hospital and I'm wondering if any of you have any advice re travel or have had a similar experience? TIA

  • Hello Becky

I also had a long journey for daily treatment.

I bought a memory foam cushion for the car and that gave me a bit of extra comfort.

Not sure if it was the radiotherapy or the chemo, but I had a little travel sickness which made the journey feel even longer. My chemo was weekly intravenous, so on those days I stopped in a near by hotel for the last couple of treatments.

It gave my partner a well earned rest from the daily journey and I enjoyed the change of scene.

Wishing you all the very best with your treatment.

  • Ah thank you Ally that’s food for thought .. I’ve been thinking I might stop the last couple of weeks in the hotel, will mull it over.

    Many thanks

  • Hi

That is a long travel time. I would play it by ear if you can. I had a two hour round trip plus about another half hour trying to park. I drove myself everyday but not sure if i would have wanted to be in a hotel, just wanted to get home each day. Xx

  • That’s great you drove! I did wonder if I maybe could Thinking

much to ponder lol thank you xx

  • Hi  ,

If the patient hotel at your treating hospital would be able to accommodate you at short notice then I would just play it by ear.

I agree 3 hours traveling each day apart from anything else will be exhausting for you but there’s nothing quite like getting back to your home comforts is there?

I booked transport for the entirety of my treatment through a local charity attached to the hospital that I received my treatment at, I had to book in advance & they would only do from start date to end date of my treatment but in hindsight I could have driven the 25 minutes or so each way all the way through to be honest. Having said this my treatment was 5 days less than the standard treatment being part of a clinical trial & I certainly couldn’t have driven a week later!
