Hello everybody
Went back into hospital on Sunday and Monday for colonoscopy and biopsies and the results of my MRI scan.
The MRI has been carefully checked and they feel that the lymph node is not a problem and the edema and thickened wall in my rectum is scar tissue and inflammation. I nearly fell off the seat, as I have been preparing for surgery. I think the Doctor was also surprised at how effective chemoradiation had been.
Went for my colonoscopy and this time they could actually get the camera up about 12cm, last time the stricture and swelling only allowed 2cm. I was awake, so my lovely Doctor was able to chat me through what he could see and I was even able to see things on the screen.
The rectum is inflamed with lots s of blood supply, some mucosa, but no visible signs of cancer. Hopefully the biopsies will tell the same story, as I am conscious small cancer cells could be lurking about. I was very happy to have a provisional diagnosis of proctitis.
The surgeon wants a PET scan, we have discussed inflammation, but he feels it will still be valuable at this stage.
I also met a lovely Lady from Belfast who had just had robotic APR and a stoma fitted. She was over 70 with a few other medical problems and her recovery was amazing. We share the same surgeon ,so I am very confident he can get me through surgery if required.
Wishing everybody the very best of days.

Hi Ally,
Well that sounds like excellent news!
What a great response to treatment and very relieved for you.
Obviously hoping that the biopsies and pet scan confirm this and appreciate that you have more waiting but it sounds like all of your positive thinking, and good self care is working.
Big hug to you xx
Hello AllyL
With a result like that it was worth falling off the seat! I am so pleased to hear this and that your surgeon is keeping such a close eye on you. And as you have discussed inflammation on a PET scan you will be aware that 'hot' spots might show up that are completely harmless. And how heartening to meet someone who has been through the surgery too, you are in good hands.
Such good news!

Thank you Crystaltipps73f2a8
Wishing you the very best for your continued recovery and January results.

Thank you Irene.
Our lovely surgeon arranged for us to be in the same room, the nurses called it the English patients room.
I was able to share all my stoma knowledge, we contacted the rep for Welland and she has sprays and powder being delivered to home. Her husband was off to get her prescription for stoma bags and I have made sure she has plenty of supplies, until hers are delivered to the chemist.
We had a lovely couple of days helping each other and we never stopped laughing.
Fate brought us together for a reason.

This is fantastic news AllyL & I’m so pleased your surgeon is covering all bases & being so thorough, it’s the only way you’ll have peace of mind isn’t it? I hope the PET scan turns out to be just another thing you can tick off on your list of investigations.
It’s also great that to had the opportunity to meet with the lady that had been through the surgery especially with her also being a patient of your surgeon, it’s obviously given you reassurance of his abilities but let’s hope you’ll not need this particular skill set of his!
Nicola
