Hi everyone

Hope you are keeping well.

would anyone know of something that actually works on broken skin in the private area?

I have not even started treatment yet and the pain I’m in when walking due to broken is is leaving me house bound and not able to work as every step feels so sore. I have used prescribed cream, Vaseline, sudo cream, e45 and nothing is working. It is so depressing stuck in doors. This is week 3 apart from my mapping scan on Friday just gone.
my skin has been like this for months due to a lump which grew on the outside below so has damaged the skin and caused the cuts.
Thanks

Michelle

  • Hi Michelle I used flamigel which you can get from Amazon but I got mine from the radiologist when I was having radiotherapy it helped with the burning good luck and take care Wendy

  • That sounds awful! I used Flamigel and found it to be very effective. I bought mine on Amazon but then was given as many tubes as I needed when I started treatment and was told not to spend money as I was entitled to have this on the NHS.

i hope you get some relief very soon.

  • Hi Michelle

That really does sound painful, the radiologists should be able to provide you with something to help.

I was given Flaminal (Forte and Hydro) toward the end of treatment and that’s slightly different to Flamigel.

Here the links for both that describe what they are for and what they do

Both your radiologists or specialist nurse should be able to decide and give you what you need.

Hope you get something for this soon.

  • Hello MichelleF6eb802,

So sorry that you’re experiencing such pain. You are in that very difficult no man’s land between diagnosis and starting treatment, when you are trying to manage the symptoms of the tumour but without the support and guidance of a team.

My tumour was also partially external and I well remember the pain while walking. I can understand why it’s affecting you so much.

I hope you have been allocated a specialist nurse who can liaise with your GP and get these creams for you. It’s clear that you need something stronger and it looks like you have had some good advice from other forum members. You shouldn’t have to buy these yourself. If you don’t have a named nurse yet, please give the team a call and explain how much this is impacting on you.

I hope you get something quickly that gives you some relief. Xx

  • Hi

Sorry you are in pain. Part of my tumour was external and was uncomfortable, the hospital gave me instillagel which numbs everything but if your skin is broken i would think that would initially sting quite bad as it stung me and my skin wasnt broken as far as I know. The stinging doesn't last long though and then it just goes numb. Flaminal forte is good for when the skin has broken i was provided this by the hospital later on. You can buy it online but ask the hospital or GP for some. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Hello

I am so sorry you are going through this, it sounds absolutely awful.  You have had some good advice about the various creams on offer, but what I noticed in your post is that you have had your mapping scan, which means your treatment will start very soon.

And there have recently been a few members on the forum who had external tumours similar to yours that when treatment started the effect was dramatic; within days they had relief from pain that had been ongoing, sometimes for months prior to treatment starting and rapid shrinkage of the tumour.

I really hope that your path takes the same route.  Do you have a start date yet?  If not I would be pushing very hard for effective pain control as well as creams to numb the pain.

    Gentle hug
