Does anyone have any bleeding or symptoms after sex? I am 2 years post treatment. Not been sexually active until recently.
Hello Feather 653
After treatment, quite a few ladies have difficulties with sex. This can range from extremely fragile sensitive skin in the area (I have this) which can be helped with lots of lubricant prior to sex. Vaginal shrinkage can also occur and dilators have helped others. However, I have heard that to actually have sex with a patient partner can go a long way to helping the vagina get back to normal so if you have managed intercourse you are doing all the right things.
The bleeding is most likely very fragile skin breaking, I don't think this is anything serious but I can imagine that it is quite alarming when it does happen.
I am sorry that you are having some problems and hope that other forum members will pitch in and advise you.
Wishing you all the luck I can
Irene xx
Hi Feather,
Yes, I had this. I also bleed when I insert the applicator for my oestrogen pessary (from GP). I think as long as it isn't painful you are ok, but you might want to mention it next time you see a doc.
Make sure you use lots of lube, and get some vaginal moisturiser for everday use.
Good luck xx
Hi
Yes - bleeding does occur - the skin I can see is inflamed so inside must be. I am 2.5 years post. I've been referred to gynaecology oncololgy specialist who says there is internal damage from radiotherapy plus previous prolapse leftover problems but it was never a problem until after radio. I've been prescribed vagifem plus a cream to try to improve things. The consultant said it would take some time for things to improve. Post menopause doesn't help. I've been told not to worry about the bleeding at all but my partner is frightened its hurting me - yes it does a bit lol.
suggest you ask for more specialist advice also.
Good luck x
Thanks for your openness Feather 653. I'm 5 yrs post treatment & not sexually active as before. My husband is hypersensitive to hurting me & the anal prolapse freaks us both out. Luckily I have found a good Pelvic Floor PT , way beyond keeps, and am hopeful. She assures me some bleeding is to be expected with how fragile the tissue was left from radiation. Best of Luck with your continued healing!
Ps. Any support folks have on dealing with anal prolapse would be appreciated!
