Well today im at tge end of week two and apart from nausea which is not ok, everything has been fine.

My tumour has shrunk dramatically which has shocked me at how quickly the treatment is working its magic xx

  • I had the same experience Ian and it really was surprising.

I could comfortably sit down and that felt really good.

Hope you get some relief soon from the sickness.

  • I can't believe how much the lump has shrunk in two weeks.

Mine is at end of anus just on inside and growing outside and even since diagnosis and mapping scans and waiting it grew much larger and now its so small in comparison. I truly couldn't imagine it happening do quickly l. The Dr states it's the chemo doing the work in this instance.

I hope you are doing ok xxxx

  • Great news Ian and so encouraging to know that you’ve had such a positive response so early in treatment.  I’m really pleased for you and hope that other than the nausea everything continues to go well.

Two weeks in now- you’re well on your way. Xx

  • Thank you Ian, I am doing really well.

First scans booked, so looking forward to getting a progress update.

Keep your spirits high and celebrate your small wins along the way.....the end of treatment is in sight.

  • Excellent news. So pleased for you. My tumour is on the amp-rectal junction so I can’t feel it, I just have to assume that it’s working. I’ve just finished week 1. Luckily I’ve not suffered from nausea. The closest I can come to describing how I feel is ‘drained’. BMs have definitely loosened and increased in frequency, coming on within 10 mins of getting up in the morning. The hard bit for me has been having to get up early and eat when I don’t want to so that I can take the tablets. Onwards and upwards!!!

  • Sounds like you are doing really well si keep up with it as we will soon be at the end. From what I've seen in terms of the size of tunour, im hoping it's the same for you so stay positive xxxxx

  • It’s really funny how we can be at the same stage of treatment and have very different side effects. Also now at end of week 2. I felt sick towards start of week 1 but haven’t had this at all this week. Some tiredness (slept most of Saturday afternoon last week). I don’t know about anyone else but the tiredness just seems to come out of nowhere and I need to stop. For this reason I made the decision to stop working. My original plan was to keep going and try to work from home if possible but feel if my body wants to sleep I need to let it. That and the time needed to go for treatments and blood tests etc it just wasn’t working.

my issues now are the skin irritation is starting. Not so much externally but internally. I thought I had a water infection but turns out not and is just the effects of the radiation leaving me with a constant stinging. Just advised to keep taking the paracetamol for now.

  • Hello

You must be so relieved, I remember you were suffering a lot of pain.  And I am sorry to hear you are still suffering nausea which is debilitating enough on its own.  The treatment might be tough and fairly toxic but the results can be dramatic and it is great that you are feeling the benefits so early on.

    Please keep updating us.

  • Hi there,

I had exactly the same as you very early on in treatment and continuing until about a week after treatment ended. I was advised to drink lemon barley water and it really worked. I drank so much of it I can't look at it in the cupboard now but radiation cystitis is horrid

    Best of luck going forward.

  • This is great news that you’re feeling the benefits of the treatment so soon. A few people with larger or protruding tumours have reported the same in the past. I hope next week goes well, enjoy your weekend off treatment.
