Hi all,

Just to update I'm now in week 2 of treatment. Week 1 I really suffered with nauseousness but I've always had a very week stomach... I also felt really tired but I think it was the stress and relief of starting treatment. This week so far so much better the anti nauseous meds been tweaked again, I now take 2 types, and this seems to work phew. My appetite is back and I'm starting to have more energy again.

Tonight after a bowel movement there was blood which I haven't had for a while. Did others get the same? I heard that the tumor literally starts breaking down and can be in blood or mucus?

  • Hello Polly,

Well done on getting through your first week, now you are getting the hang of it, the rest should pass fairly quickly.

I felt quite sick in the first week, I understand it is the chemo drug they give right at the start which can cause nausea. I had chemo tablets to take alongside the radiotherapy and although I lost my appetite a bit, they didn't make me feel sick, and although I started taking the anti sickness meds, I soon realised I was fine without them.

Some people here did find some blood or mucus when we went to the loo, so I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, but I would mention it to one of your medical team just to reassure yourself.

All the best with the rest of your treatment! x

  • Thanks I will mention the bleeding to my team tomorrow but I'm sure as you say it's fine. It wasn't a lot

  • Hello Polly,

Well done on getting through week one and on to week two. It’s good that the anti sickness tablets are helping you and that you’re managing to eat and have a bit more energy.

I had blood when opening bowels but then again I’d had ongoing bleeding before the treatment. It’s true that the tumour starts breaking down and of course the area becomes irritated and inflamed. As Mrs Vanilla says it’s worth mentioning this to your team though, just to check it out.

Wishing you well for week 2. You’re getting there.

    xx

  • Thanks Peb24 for responding and letting me know you also experienced bleeding. I've woken up this morning with period type pain and am bleeding from my vagina too. Argh everyday brings something doesn't it. I am sure normal and part of the journey but will call my cancer team.

  • Hello PollyH

I am so pleased that you are feeling better than you were last week, that must be such a relief.  That's why it is essential to keep in close contact with your treating team as most nausea can be sorted out with a bit of tweaking.  And I think you are absolutely right, the relief of treatment being underway is enormous (and stressful).   And the other issues - I hope you will be reassured you that these are all normal changes occurring during treatment.

Just keep marking off the days!

  • Hi  ,

I’m pleased that you seem to have the nausea under control, it really is a juggling game with the antiemetic meds, the tiredness would probably have been a mixture of the nausea & lack of appetite & the stress of starting treatment. So well done getting through week 1. Any side effects you’re experiencing just mention at your daily appointments & you’ll be reassured by your team I’m sure. I hope your second week goes smoothly. Keep ticking off those appointments & you’ll be nearing the end before you know it.

  • Thank you much Nikki

    All the best

Just want to wish you well for week 3. I hope you managed to get the bleeding checked out and that you’re as ok as possible.
