Hi everyone,
so I’m 7 days in from my 28 day radiotherapy, chemo treatment.
I have not sat down for a good few weeks
Nothing different to what I was lead to expect.
starting to feel a little more with it mentally.
Maggies in Manchester now run a monthly Anal Cancer support group, although I was in agony, I managed to get there, and I’m so glad I did.
I am grateful for all the painkillers and creams. It was very hard the 1st week , everywhere I walked I leaked fluid. I’m having to change my bed sheets everyday., they think I have a thrush type thing going on.
I’m still on a low fibre diet, amazingly I have put 8 lbs on. I’m not going to change for a few weeks, until the pain is less.
All the amazing advice I received on her really helped prepare me, the Sit bath has been so good.
I get a phone call in 2 weeks to see how I am and then an appt 31st July for bloods and the consultant . Then pray it’s al worked.
stay safe everyone AGP
Hi AGP
Sounds like you’re on a similar timeline to mine, I also have the 6 week follow up on the 31st July.
Hope the side effects ease for you soon and that you have a positive outcome.
I went to Maggies in Manchester at the start of treatment in May and they didn’t have anything specific for AC so looks like that’s a new thing, have looked on their website and no info, did you have to go into the centre to find out about it?

Well done on finishing treatment. Not sure if this is useful at this stage or not, but for my after-treatment period,I wound up buying disposable chux pads from Amazon to put on my bed every day. It saved me from having to change my bedsheets daily.
I'm wishing you all the best in your recovery and for a good outcome from treatment! Xx
Yes I've been using pads, but this horrible leakage goes everywhere . They took a swab at the Christie on Sunday, no infection in my blood or urine , they are trying antibiotics for Thrush . Their nearly finished, but there has been no change sadly .I guess I was hoping to feel a bit better 8 days on.Just got to be patient I suppose.
I cant wait to wear clothes again. I'm living in 3 long dresses .
Onwards and upwards ,it's got to be worth it in the long run.
Warm wishes Anne
I'm so sorry you're having leakage and hope it goes away soon. A lot of people on this forum seem to make a turn for the better around the two week mark (I was a bit slower), so you're getting close. As for the clothing, I can totally relate! I basically wore a sarong around my lower half and was so sick of it after a few weeks that I practically wept with joy when I could wear underwear and pants again.
Wishing you good healing and some regular clothes soon! Xx

It is still very very early days and you are doing so well; I am sorry to hear about your leaking problem, changing sheets daily is such a task and I am sorry that the disposables aren't enough (I had them for quite some time) as they certainly make life a bit easier. Hopefully if you get this infection sorted out things will calm down.
Just be very kind to yourself, lots of rest and do the barest minimum, you need to recover!
Great to hear that there is a Maggie's group dedicated to those with anal cancer, that is such a positive step!
You stay safe too

Hi AGP ,
So good to hear you’re done with your treatment although the stage you’re at right now can be difficult. Hopefully just a few more days & you’ll find yourself turning a corner in your recovery & will begin to see improvements. I also hope your team can get to the root cause of this leakage as that must be driving you mad & dragging you down.
I think you’re doing the right thing staying on a low fibre diet for now & it’s good to hear that you’ve regained some weight, it’s important that our bodies have the energy to put into recovery as it’s been through a lot these last few weeks!
It’s fantastic that your local Maggies has an anal cancer support group & that despite everything you’ve got going on that you managed to get there!
Sending lots of healing thoughts your way & wishing you a speedy recovery.
Nicola
