Hi,
I’ve not been on here lately,
As a reminder it’s my wife who was treated for anal cancer at the start of the year.
The MRI scan revealed that the main tumour (which was large!) has been obliterated which is good. There is however a note regarding two adjacent lymph nodes (that we already knew from early on were likely to have been affected). I’ll reproduce it here:
“A right-sided mesorectal lymph node has reduced in size from 27 mm to 12 mm. A superior rectal lymph node has reduced in size from 10 mm to 8 mm.”
Due to the above, my wife with have an ultrasound + biopsy on the 30th. I’m assuming they want to be sure it’s not simply the effects of the radio-chemo.
Does anyone who has been on this road want to contribute their experience ?
Thanks
Hi
I had still some tumour and lymph nodes left after chemo radiotherapy so underwent 6 cycles of chemotherapy which shrank both .Then I had surgery .I've not had a scan yet but hoping it's all gone .Just remember there are options and usually someone on here who has already been there .Hope this is useful and her consultant has options for her .
Take Care

Hello Vic63
I had several lymph nodes involved at diagnosis and also a spot on the lung. I underwent 6 months systemic chemotherapy first before the standard radiotherapy/chemotherapy, followed by lung ablations.
I was told that the radiotherapy/chemotherapy would treat the lymph nodes, and as far as I know it did. I am over three years out of treatment. I don't know enough about lymph node involvement to say what is normal or not, what I do know is that the treatment itself causes all sorts of inflammation and it seems logical that this would include lymph nodes. I had to go for a sigmoidoscopy because of thickening at the tumour site but everything was fine, just scar tissue. But as with your wife, I think they were just making sure.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I hope your wife is doing well otherwise, and that the biopsies are clear.
